Ardville is a charming, traditional, stone croft cottage, enjoying stunning views from its elevated position across the Kyle of Tongue, with the magical Rabbit Island in the foreground. Situated in the quiet and totally unspoilt small crofting community of Melness, this lovely cottage has been in the same family for many generations. The current owners have upgraded and refurbished the cottage to provide modern facilities throughout, whilst retaining its welcoming cottage ambience.
Ardville is accessed via its own gardens that look out across the sea; a wonderful spot to sit and drink amidst the amazing seascape. There is a delightful living room, with a wood burner and deep leather sofas. The kitchen is small, well equipped and the adjoining separate dining room ensures there is plenty of room for guests. There is a bright modern shower room on the ground floor. Upstairs the roof has been lifted to provide a surprisingly high ceiling for this era of cottage. There is a double bedroom, a twin room and a single bedroom. All are attractively presented with pretty soft furnishings.
The pretty hamlet of Melness is still a crofting community, where sheep and cattle wander freely. It has good facilities, all within walking distance, including a thriving country pub just a short stroll from the cottage and a good local store. The nearby village of Tongue, just 5 minutes by car, has a larger selection of amenities and facilities, including a general store, hotels with bars and restaurants and craft shops. There are three stunning sandy beaches – Skinnet, Talmine and Achininver – all just a walk away. And the coastline along the north and west routes provides many further picturesque beaches. The locality is renowned for its spectacular scenery, with the mountains of Ben Hope and Loyal, and wonderful hill and coastal walks direct from the cottage.
The region is adored by outdoor enthusiasts, yet remains remote and totally unspoilt. Fishing, sailing, kayaking, climbing, hill walking and cycling are all regular pastimes. There are also a number of excellent golf courses within easy reach, including Durness and Reay. Beach ¼ mile. Shop, pub and restaurant 200 yards.
Small dog/s only allowed.
