Greenhill cottage is praised for its stunning views, peaceful setting, and excellent location for exploring Skye and Portree. Guests appreciate the cosy atmosphere, secure garden for dogs, and well-equipped kitchen. While the property offers comfort and a memorable base for holidays, several reviews mention that the cottage would benefit from improved maintenance, particularly in the bathroom and some furnishings. Cleanliness and attention to detail could be enhanced, but overall, guests enjoyed their stay and many would return.
Several guests noted issues with cleanliness, such as dust, mould in the bathroom, and the need for a deep clean. However, some found the property generally clean and comfortable. Prompt responses from housekeeping were appreciated, but recurring comments suggest room for improvement.
The location is consistently highlighted as outstanding, with breathtaking views, proximity to Portree, and easy access to Skye's attractions. The peaceful setting and beautiful walks from the door are major positives, though the access road is occasionally mentioned as rough.
Guests found the cottage warm, cosy, and comfortable, especially enjoying the beds and sofas after long walks. Some noted issues with worn mattresses in the twin room and limited seating for larger groups, but overall comfort was rated positively.
The cottage is well-equipped with kitchen essentials and parking, but several maintenance issues were raised, including a dated bathroom, faulty microwave, leaking guttering, and lack of oven gloves. These recurring concerns indicate that facilities and upkeep could be improved.
There are no mentions of welcome gifts or extra thoughtful touches in the reviews, so a score cannot be provided for this category.

Greenhill is a very special holiday home tucked away in a tiny settlement called Torvaig, near Portree. Greenhill is a detached bungalow and has been completely renovated to a very good standard of accommodation. There are three bedrooms, a family bathroom, a living/dining room with open fire, and a kitchen. It’s a perfect house for families because it has an amazing enclosed garden.
The location is truly spectacular, at the road end with one of the best views on the island, and that’s saying something. At the front of the property, the garden spills away to reveal the Sound of Raasay and the channel that leads to Portree harbour, as well as the striking hill Ben Tianavaig across the water. It’s a sublime situation and you will be blown away every time you gaze out to look.
Even though you’re so close to Portree, this location is amazingly quiet: partly because the road to Portree is a few miles round, and not direct, which means you’re still close for the shops, bars, cafés and restaurants, but have the advantage of peace and quiet, your own little tranquil slice of heaven. This quiet helps attract Skye’s wildlife, and just below the property and to the left where the land spills away to the coast, there are cliffs where sea eagles and golden eagles nest. Also there are regular sightings of dolphins at the mouth of Portree Bay, which you can see from Greenhill.
Just under 3 miles to Portree by car, you’re a shorter walk away. There’s a fabulous trail that loops right by the house and is a popular walk for locals and visitors to Portree alike. Staying at Greenhill you can use the Scorrybreac Trail to get in and out of the town. To the centre of Portree it is only a 1-mile walk. Beach 7 miles. Shop, pub and restaurant 2½ miles.
Suitable for up to 2 pets

The cottage is perfectly located. The view is amazing! The Walk down to Portree is beautiful. But the Building itself and the property are simple, nearly neglected.

We had a wonderful 14 nights at Greenhill. The cottage was very comfortable with stunning views.Kitchen had plenty of utensils and crockery. The freezer needed de-frosting as the drawers were difficult to open and close. The microwave timer control did not work properly and it was difficult to set the timer and sometimes did not stop the microwave, which meant switching off at the wall. Both these points had been mentioned in previous reviews. On a sunny day it was quite difficult to see the TV as there was no blind on the main window.
