About this property

Relugas Mill was the old Miller's Cottage and has been fully modernised and extended to provide superb family holiday accomodation with an excellent standard of furnishing. The cottage overlooks the old mill pond and the surrounding gardens ensure privacy. There are lovely views over the Findhorn valley and while the cottage has a peaceful rural setting it is close to the bustling town of Forres and the Moray Firth with all it's excellent beaches. A path near the house leads down to the spectacular river banks, perfect for a walk with or without a dog.

The former miller's cottage was built over two hundred years ago which has been modernised and has been extended to make a spacious light and airy family holiday cottage. The cottage has recently been further extended to provide a large sitting room complementing the spacious kitchen/dining room and large ground floor twin bedroom with French doors to patio with seating. The ground floor accommodation also includes a spacious bathroom with both bath and walk in shower. The new sitting room has french doors to a full length covered veranda with chairs and table which look out on the large garden and unfenced mill pond. The modernisation of the cottage, with the open fire in the sittingroom, full oil fired central heating and double glazing ensures a warm and cosy holiday.

The surrounding gardens ensure privacy and the house has lovely views over the steep sided Findhorn Valley. A path leads down to a pleasant walk along the river banks, perfect with or with out a dog! A short walk downstream will bring you to Randolph's Leap, but please don't try to emulate his feat!

The shops and restaurants of Forres are only eight miles away. The Whisky Trail and many old castles are nearby, whilst Elgin, Nairn, Inverness, Culloden Moor and the Clan Stones, the basis for television series "The Outlander", Loch Ness and Aviemore are within easy reach. The boundary of the Cairngorms National Park is just 15 miles away.

The local area caters for many outdoor pursuits including fishing, golfing, horse riding, walking and river rafting. Not to be missed are the opportunities for watching dolphins along the Moray coast and also the unspoilt sandy beaches of the Findhorn Bay.

We spend a wonderful week in this beautiful spacious house. Close to the see and the east of the Cairngorms. A warm retreat next to the fireplace in the new build living room after days outside. Right by the nature.

Whilst we really enjoyed our weeks break at the Mill, and there is indeed much to enjoy about it, particularly the new lounge extension, sadly there are shortcomings with regards to hygiene (kitchen related) and health & safety (mainly electrical testing). Although this is our second visit, with the proposed significant increase in pricing (75% for our week beginning September) the previous value for money is sadly not enough to make us wish to return. If you can overlook said shortcomings, you could have a good holiday. The space, location and grounds are great, as is much of the house. Personally, I don't see the need for an abundance of personal photos and irrelevant "artefacts", though many may see this as "character." As my old Gran would say, "it's a harbour for stoor." All said, the price increase will have to be matched with a better eye for detail.
