Lairg, which is positioned in the middle of the lonely and stunning Northern Highlands, is 50 miles north of Inverness. Visitors may enjoy excellent golf courses, world-class fishing, some of the best hill walking and mountaineering terrain in the nation, as well as the magnificent castle at Dunrobin, which serves as the home of the Earls of Sutherland. The castle, which has a sea view, has a stunning formal garden that was modelled after the splendour of Versailles in France. Along with playing at the renowned Royal Dornoch Golf Club, golfers may also enjoy a round at nearby facilities at Bonar Bridge, Golspie, and Ullapool. The West, North, and East coasts can all be reached easily from Lairg, which also offers breathtaking landscape in every direction. Ben Hope, the most northerly Munro, and the well-known peaks Suilven, Arkle, and Foinavon are all accessible to walkers. Visitors interested in whisky can take advantage of trips to local distilleries including Balblair, Clynelish, and Glenmorangie. Enthusiastic anglers can choose from a variety of picturesque trout lochs in the neighbourhood, which is located at the southern end of the gorgeous Loch Shin. Wonderful open views from the front of the cottage, and the back garden was delightful, loved the fairy lights. Cottage nice and clean, very well equipped, wonderful kitchen with everything you need, welcome basket was a nice surprise along with the milk etc. in the fridge, and the dog treats/ball went down a storm with Sali, our border collie. Initial issue with hot water was resolved, thank you. Fabulous shower. Many thanks to the gentleman who came to dig us out with a snow plough on our last day, it was very much appreciated. It may be useful to have some maps of the local area/walks etc. but that is no slight on the wonderful week we spent there, just a suggestion. Really hope to visit again in the future..

We absolutely love this place! From arriving to the Challenger estate, it is clear you're in a very special place. Set in the most picturesque environment, its impressive to say the least! Once on the estate lane, the drive to the Bothy is smooth, straightforward and you soon become absorbed in the stunning surroundings. The Bothy itself in its position is really welcoming. We arrived in the evening and it was lovely and warm inside and we very soon felt at home. It is really cosy yet also perfectly spacious. The decor and quality furniture really add to the character of the very charming Bothy. It is clean and fresh throughout. The log fire in the living area is perfect for the evenings and we were welcomed by a generous amount of breakfast items and plenty of wood for the fire. The Bothy has everything you could need or think of for your stay, from games and books to helpful kitchen items, more than can be mentioned, lots of extras. More photos or maps of the estate and area are the only thing that we could possibly find to say that could be added to celebrate this wonderful place! The garden to the Bothy is just beautiful! It is the perfect place for day and night activities, particularly wildlife spotting and star gazing. There is a bench to soak in the stunning views and the garden is lit by lights between the trees at night, which is so pretty, we enjoyed this every night! The views from the Bothy and the estate are superb, with lochs, mountains and ruins within easy walking, and numerous other places of interest a short drive away. Communication with the owner was great from start to finish, always prompt and really helpful. We would absolutely love to stay at the Challenger estate again, in fact we cannot wait to go back!
