With convenient roadside parking and a short drive to the breath-taking Cairngorms National Park, this delightful retreat is perfect for families or friends seeking a scenic escape in the heart of nature. Upon entering the single-storey River Cottage, you will be greeted by three inviting bedrooms; a double with a convenient en-suite featuring a walk-in shower, basin and WC, a further double and an inviting twin room. All rooms are tastefully decorated, offering a serene space to rest after a day of adventures. The property also boasts a well-appointed bathroom with a bath, basin and WC, perfect for a relaxing soak.

The heart of the home is the warm open-plan area, where you will find a well-equipped kitchen ready for you to prepare your favourite meals. Adjacent to the kitchen is the sitting area, anchored by a beautiful woodburning stove whose soft crackle and dancing warmth create a welcoming retreat after a day in the Highland air. Sink into the plush corner sofa and enjoy the calming green walls and soft carpet underfoot, letting the steady glow of the fire set the tone for quiet evenings in. The dining area, with seating for six guests, is the perfect place to gather for a hearty meal or a board game.

The chandelier hanging over the wooden table adds a touch of elegance to your dining experience. Outside, you can enjoy the tranquillity of the surrounding area, making River Cottage the perfect base for your next Scottish getaway. When you're ready to explore, follow the River Ness along its tree‑lined banks, where salmon leap in season, seals glide upriver on the tide and otters have been known to make fleeting appearances at dawn. Cross the charming bridges towards the city centre, discovering Inverness Cathedral, the museum, or the vibrant stalls of the Victorian Market. Walk further upstream to the Caledonian Canal, where yachts drift gently through the locks and wide towpaths offer some of the most peaceful walking routes in the city.

From here, you can board a Jacobite Cruise and sail the deep, mysterious waters of Loch Ness, a must for anyone tempted by its legendary tales. You’ll also find Inverness Botanic Gardens close by, with tropical glasshouses and floral displays offering a burst of colour whatever the season. For wildlife lovers, local Dolphin Tours on the Moray Firth provide the unforgettable chance to see bottlenose dolphins skimming the waves, along with seals and seabirds. A short trip south along the loch will bring you to Dores, a peaceful shoreline known for its long beach, broad views and a touch of Nessie‑hunting magic.

Visit Drumnadrochit for the atmospheric ruins of Urquhart Castle or continue to Foyers to stand before the dramatic Falls of Foyers thundering into a forested gorge. Food enthusiasts will love Inverness’s growing culinary scene, from the creative foodhall at the Victorian Market to craft beers at Black Isle Brewery and the city’s growing cluster of independent cafés, lively pubs and music‑filled venues. Further afield, outdoor adventurers can head for the Cairngorms for high‑level walks and winter sports, or challenge themselves with a climb of popular Munro Ben Wyvis, whose sweeping views reward every step. Fans of Outlander and The Traitors will find plenty to explore too, with filming locations, Jacobite history and evocative Highland scenery all within easy reach.

Whisky lovers can venture to nearby Tomatin for a guided distillery tour and a tasting of local drams. With easy connections from Inverness, including rail, coach and nearby airport links, River Cottage also makes a wonderful base for those travelling the NC500 or heading out to the Outer Hebrides and Orkney. An enchanting mix of history, wilderness and Highland warmth awaits when you choose to reside at our lovely River Cottage.

The Capital of the Highlands, the city of Inverness, is the gateway to the countless delights of the Highlands of Scotland. Towering mountains, dark lochs, great forests and precipitous sea cliffs are all within easy reach. Of particular note is the legendary Loch Ness, which is surrounded by some truly breathtaking scenery, although most visitors are usually on the lookout for something a bit more mysterious! Just outside the city is the Culloden Battlefield at Culloden Moor (National Trust). The site of the last major battle fought on British soil, there is an award-winning display depicting the battle, whilst a walk on the field serves as a poignant reminder of the clansmen who lost their lives. Inverness itself has much to offer, museums, an art gallery, fine theatre and leisure facilities, not to mention shops, pubs and restaurants. The River Ness flows through the city and both the river and neighbouring Moray Firth are home to a diverse range of wildlife and marine life including red kites, along with dolphins, which can sometimes be seen from the shore, or on trips from the harbour.
