About this property

St Andrews 4.7 miles. Perched on the outskirts of the historic St. Andrews in the idyllic hamlet of Boarhills, is this homely cottage, 1 Murtach Cottages. Set over two floors and sleeping up to four guests, 1 Murtach Cottages is a perfect base for exploring the quaint fishing villages, sandy beaches and famous golf courses that the East Neuk of Fife has to offer. Look forward to cooking up a storm in the fully-equipped kitchen, housing a range of essential amenities to ensure an enjoyable staycation experience, including a handy dishwasher so you don't have to lift a finger to do the washing up. Gather together with your loved ones in the dining room to tuck-in to a delicious feast, thoughtfully laid-out with a vintage décor and fit with a rustic whisky barrel corner, providing a lovely spot to enjoy a game of cards or your favourite tipple of an evening. Cosy up on the plush sofas in the sitting room as you grab the popcorn and enjoy a family film night on the Smart TV. Completing the ground-floor is a small snug, where you can put your feet up and relax on the sofa with your favourite book and escape reality for a short while, or catch sight of the sun as it sets across the vibrant flowers and shrubbery of the well-kept front garden. Climb the stairs to the first floor where you can pour in the bubbles and indulge in a hot soak in the bath, before popping on fresh pyjamas and heading to catch your rest in one of two well-presented bedrooms, a double and a twin, each framing far-reaching views and made up with fresh quality linens. Kick-start your day with a revitalising shower before making use of the complimentary pods provided to enjoy a steaming cup of Lavazza coffee out on the secluded patio with your guests as you soak up the stunning country views and listen to the peaceful sound of birdsong; if you're lucky enough to experience the warmer weather, why not fire up the barbeque in the afternoon and enjoy a spot of alfresco dining in the sunshine? A short walk from your doorstep along a direct access footpath will bring you to the tranquil waters of the sea; a lovely spot to soak in the last of the evening sun or comb the shores for shells and rockpools. Lace up your walking boots and embark on a two-footed adventure along the Fife Coastal Path that runs through the hamlet, a popular waymarked traffic-free trail that stretches a staggering 81 miles alongside the dramatic coast of eastern Scotland. Explore your local surroundings and head north through an unspoilt section of coastal trail, designated a Site of Special Interest due to the abundance of flora and fauna that decorates the landscape, and meander up and down the coves towards St Andrews, where you will find the impressive 13th-century castle which houses secret passages and a dungeon. Delve into the town’s history at the St Andrews Heritage Museum & Garden, which houses art and objects detailing the towns history, all under the roof of a charming 17th-century home. Be sure to make a stop at the St. Andrews Aquarium where you can meet the local marine life or head to the glorious sands of St. Andrews Beach to enjoy a stroll along the shores or soaking up the sun. For a more leisurely stroll, walk alongside the banks of the River Kenly as it runs through the quiet hamlet towards the coast, leading you to a secluded beach cove, home to gloriously golden sand and the breath-taking turquoise waters of Salt Lake. Feel the sand between your toes and savour the fresh sea breeze as you discover the coastal villages of Crail, Kingsbarns, home to the aptly named Kingsbarn Whisky Distillery, Anstruther, the perfect stop off for a spot of fish and chips as you watch the world go by at the working harbour before continuing on to Pittenweem and St Monans, or save your feet and catch the handy bus service, ideal for hopping on and off. Avid golfers will be delighted by the close proximity of 1 Murtach Cottages to a number of beautifully-maintained courses, with 9 of Scotland's top 100 courses situated within five miles; test your swing at the oldest golf course in the world at St Andrews Old Course, rated second in Scotland, or experience the championship Kittocks and Torrance Course at Fairmont.
