Guests say

Hedderwick House is a spacious and comfortable property in Anstruther, appreciated for its well-equipped kitchen and cosy atmosphere. Guests enjoy the local amenities and the property's suitability as a base for exploring Fife. Some guests mentioned minor maintenance issues and challenges with parking.

The property is generally described as clean and well-maintained, with no significant complaints about cleanliness.

The location is highly praised for its proximity to local attractions and amenities, despite the mention of a steep hill which may affect those with mobility issues.

While some guests found the beds comfortable, others reported them as too firm, and there were issues with WiFi connectivity and heating control.

The house is well-equipped, but there are reports of maintenance issues such as a leaking kettle, broken blinds, and non-functional heated towel rail.

While guests mentioned receiving logs and oat cakes, there is not enough consistent information about thoughtful touches or welcome gifts to provide a score. It should be noted that such gestures are not guaranteed.

We had a lovely stay in this spacious, comfortable house with responsive hosts. Parking can be challenging, so we were grateful for access to the garage. The kitchen was well equipped, but we would have appreciated having any cleaning products or kitchen basics provided. We were glad we brought the basics such as oil, tin foil, loo roll etc.

Hedderwick House is a VERY large property. It's in a great location close to Pittenween Harbour, although there's a very steep hill to navigate so bear that in mind if you have mobility issues. The house has a well equipped kitchen and has a secondary living area and three bedrooms. The main bathroom is upstairs, with a small shower in the downstairs toilet room. I would not receive relying on a second bathroom for washing facilities if that's important to you, because it relies on walking through the entire property to get to the downstairs bathroom, and it's quite a long walk!Unfortunately, we did not find the property suitable for us. The priority when we rent a holiday home is comfort. We want decent beds and good WiFi. The WiFi at Hedderwick House is extremely patchy on the ground floor, and non existent upstairs. There's no mobile reception (we had everything but Vodafone), so this is going to be a pain for most people. It severely hampered us, because we want to relax and stream stuff on holiday. I have not known a holiday rental to lack WiFi for many years now. It's an essential these days, so we were shocked to find how poor it was. (We suspected the router is off site somewhere). That leads to the next point. There are several televisions, but not one is a Smart TV. That is highly unusual these days. Everybody these days streams content. We'd brought our Fire Stick with us in case of emergency, but with the poor WiFi, we could only stream downstairs, and it failed constantly. You couldn't use your phone and stream or everything ground to a halt. This created stress and led to a very unrelaxing experience. We then tried sleeping, but the beds and pillows feel like they're made of concrete. I have a very firm mattress at home, and I like a firm bed, but this was literally no different from sleeping on the floor. The pillows are hard and flat and completely unyielding. We could not sleep and both had neckache and backache. In fact it was so bad that we left a day early and checked into a hotel. The exhaustion lasted until after the holiday and has left us both feeling more tired and run down than before the break. The heating also doesn't work properly because it's a Smart thermostat and of course there's a problem with the WiFi. You're supposed to control it by switching it on and off manually. So you have to get out of bed and do the long walk downstairs in the freezing cold and hour before you want to get up just to warm the house up. Every rental we've ever stayed at has a heating timer. So this was a huge disappointment. The instructions folder was out of date and had corrections scribbled in pen. It gave incorrect instructions about rubbish disposal and outdated restaurant information. There was no information about the local area in it.The heated towel rail in the bathroom doesn't work, and there's nowhere to hang towels, so they end up being damp.Unfortunately, the lack of attention to things that matters meant this holiday was unenjoyable and not worth the money. Hedderwick House could potentially be a great place to stay, but it needs comfier mattresses and pillows, decent WiFi with full coverage, fully functioning heating, and Smart TV or Firestick in the main room as a minimum.
