The Old Toll House is a distinctive and unique bow-ended cottage, formerly a Toll House in the 19th century set in a prominent position as you drive down towards the Harbour in this pretty little village. The Old Toll House has been completely renovated throughout in 2021 and the ownerâs eye for detail is evident as you step through the door.
With quality and comfort paramount throughout on the ground floor, there is a modern fully fitted kitchen/dining room, a plush shower room and the large bedroom is delightful with its bowed walls and luxurious bed. Upstairs is pretty special â the large living room has windows on two elevations where you can get a glimpse of the sea, a wonderful log wood burner for those chillier evenings, and comfortable sofas and chairs to complement the room.
Portpatrick is one of the most popular little holiday villages on the coast in beautiful Dumfries and Galloway. Set around a small bay with cliffs forming the backdrop in years gone by, it was a busy transport port to Northern Ireland. On clear night you can see the lights on the Irish Coast and the sun setting behind the Mourne Mountains. The Old Toll House is only a hundred yards or so from the bustle of the Harbour where you can take a sea fishing or sightseeing cruise, or why not relax in one of the several pubs along the seafront and just watch the boats coming and going? Walking is a pleasure in and around the village with spectacular cliff paths which take you past the ruins of Dunskey Castle and several secluded bays and from the village for the intrepid walker you can start your journey on the Southern Upland Way.
The village is a hive of activity throughout the year for guests at the Old Toll House to enjoy from the rnli Lifeboat week, the Music Festival, Farmers Markets and Craft Fayres to Vintage Truck Rallies. Being on the recently formed South West Coastal 300 a stunningly beautiful touring route throughout the whole region, Portpatrick is the perfect base for your holiday. Beach 1 mile.

First time staying in The Old Toll House and we really hope to be back. It's a quirky wee building but the owners use of space as well the high standard of decor/furniture was excellent. From the minute we walked in we were smiling and i have to say it smelled AMAZING!! đ It was a welcoming home to come back to after a day out and about. The owners should be very proud and it's definitely going to be our No1 place to stay whenever we visit.

Weâve just returned from a fabulous stay at the Old Toll House and canât recommend it highly enough. We know Portpatrick very well but had not stayed here before. Itâs a landmark building on the Main Street into the village which, although very modern inside, still has bags of character. Very comfortable and very well equipped, itâs a very cosy place to return to after days exploring the village and the nearby coastal walks. Nice central location and handy for the seafront, local facilities and for eating out at the great range of places in the village. Despite its central position, itâs very peaceful, especially at night. The owners are very thoughtful and responsive when needed. Would definitely recommend and will hopefully return ourselves very soon.

We stayed at The Toll House for one week in August 2026. I highly recommend a stay here. The location is perfect for the Portpatrick harbour tow minutes walk. No dedicated parking for the house BUT street parking was no problem. The Toll House itself is amazing. Everything you need is there. Beautifully clean. The hosts left milk in the fridge that was most welcome as we arrived late afternoon. The instruction folder tells you everything you need to know and is worth looking through. Stranraer is a short drive where you can find two supermarkets and petrol garage. A thing to look out for in Port Patrick is the pitch and put by the village hall. The walking trails have amazing views.
