The location is highly praised for its spectacular sea views and proximity to the beach, with many guests appreciating the direct access from the garden. The peaceful setting and natural beauty of the area are major highlights for visitors.

The cottage is often described as cosy, warm, and welcoming, with quality furnishings that contribute to a home-from-home feeling. However, some guests mention that certain furniture could be more comfortable, slightly lowering the score.

About this property

An attractive, single-storey, detached cottage, in the coastal holiday village of Southerness. Well-equipped and attractively furnished, this cottage enjoys a beachfront location, overlooking the Solway Firth. The large and beautifully maintained garden provides the perfect place to relax and enjoy the pleasant sea views over breakfast, afternoon tea or dinner. This cottage can accommodate five, with a double bedroom and a second bedroom with a triple bunk. It enjoys an ideal location for walking and cycling along the beautiful beaches of the Scottish Riviera coast and the majestic Galloway Hills. Pretty towns like Gatehouse of Fleet as well as Scotland's book town of Wigtown are easily reached from this cottage, ensuring something for every member of the family. EPC Rating: Band E

Established in the late 18th century, the village of Southerness looks out over the Solway Firth and forms part of the Colvend coast. Home to two pubs and a village store, the seaside village also boasts two miles of sandy beaches with dunes, rock pools and warm Gulf Stream waters, as well as one of the oldest lighthouses in Scotland. Built in 1748, this beacon was one of the first in the country. Nearby Criffel Hill is an impressive 569m tall and offers varied walks with wonderful views of the farmland and the sands of the Nith Estuary. The Southerness Championship Golf Course is definitely worth playing for its panoramic views of the Solway Firth, the Cumbrian Lake District and the Galloway Hills.

The large garden has many seating areas and the view over the sea is amazing.

We arrived on the coldest night of this year to discover malfunctioning heating (broken storage heater in lounge) and no instructions as to how to light the gas fire! Freezing cold lounge area that resulted in having to wrap up in blankets to get warm, even after the fire was lit! Telephoned for help and a gentleman arrived and got the fire lit and showed us how to do it, but it took a further 3 visits from the maintenance gentleman before the heater was fixed and it was Tuesday before it started to work. Even the remote control for the TV was temperamental and only worked in fits and starts! A welcome pack would have been much appreciated but we were disappointed not to have one: this is the first time we haven't had one. Not even any washing up liquid or cleaning aids. We found the lounge furniture uncomfortable! The mattresses on the beds were poor quality and lost any comfort after 3 nights. A burst water pipe in the villiage resulted in no water for several hours on Wednesday and a nine mile round trip to purchase some. One of the reasons we were attracted to this property was the fact that it was so close to the beach and had an access gate at the bottom of the garden with a path and steps to get onto the Beach. We were hugely disappointed to see signs and warnings advising not to use it because of the dangerous condition it was in. This was not made clear prior to booking! The only plus points were the Garden and the View from the lounge! I think it would be prudent for future advertising to state this place is definitely not suitable for persons with disability and mobility issues!

Everything was just what we want from a holiday property, comfortable with everything we needed. Dogs loved exploring the garden. Would defiantly recommend and return.
