With a rich history stretching back to the 17th century, New Galloway is a cheerful burgh and is home to a picturesque 9-hole golf course and the CatStrand arts centre. To the west, the glorious Galloway Forest Park (1.5 miles) offers a wealth of activities including mountain biking, forest trails and stargazing in the UK's first Dark Sky Park. Heading south, the ruins of Kenmure Castle are just under a mile away, standing close to the northern tip of the stunning Loch Ken. At the southern end of Loch Ken, the thriving town of Castle Douglas (14 miles) has a choice of great shops and restaurants, with nearby landmarks including Threave House, Threave Castle, and Carlingwalk Loch.

Heading through, the handsome country-style kitchen is fully equipped, with ample workspace and a useful breakfast table; find all you need to cook up Scottish feasts for the group. Exploring the ground floor of this sweet cottage further, you will find a refreshing family shower room and the first of three characterful bedrooms: a lovely double with plenty of storage space, a TV and pretty views across the mature woodland. Upstairs, the spacious first-floor landing has a handy desk and chair in case anyone needs to catch up with some work.
