Ringford is a small village close to the majestic Solway Coast with an abundance of sandy beaches, rugged cliff tops and quaint little seaside villages to explore, while inland is the vast expanse of the Galloway Forest Park. Walking and cycling is definitely a favourite pastime, so whether it be coastal or countryside walks or cycles, Kerrim Cottage is the perfect location to explore the area on foot or by bike. For the more adventurous try one of the nearby 7Stanes mountain bike trails. Whilst the village does not have a shop, the nearby town of Kirkcudbright has an excellent array of independent shops and cafés. Kirkcudbright is known as ‘The Artists’ Town’; you can take a stroll along the historic High Street and visit the famous Broughton House, once home of E A Hornel, or experience the Arts and Crafts Trail. There’s also a castle to expore! This lovely town on the estuary still has a busy and bustling harbour where you can watch the fishing boats return with their catch. A must for children and adults alike is a visit to the Dark Sky Planetarium, a state-of-the-art interactive science and space themed experience for everyone, or you just may prefer the Dark Art Gin Distillery next door! Kirkcudbright and other places can be reached by bus from Ringford.

Another lovely little town is Castle Douglas, known as ‘The Food Town’, a delightful, small market town only a short drive away with an array of independent shops selling local produce and quality gifts. There is a number of cafés, pubs and restaurants to enjoy a meal in, as well as excellent butchers and food shops for you to sample the local produce.
