The forest provides fantastic opportunities for spotting rare wildlife, including red kites, red squirrels, roe deer and even otters. Keen walkers can tackle Cairnsmore of Fleet (22 miles), the southernmost mountain in Scotland and a popular choice for experienced hikers or enjoy the gentler landscapes and panoramic views of Darngarroch Hill (9 miles).
