Pheasant Lodge is nestled in beautiful rural Cumbrian countryside, close to the Lake District, just three miles from the romantic village of Gretna Green, the gateway to Scotland, the World famous Blacksmith's Shop, where marriages are & still performed today! This is the perfect location for walking, cycling, salmon horse racing, fishing, mountain biking, flying, clay pigeon shooting & many other outdoor activities. A short drive to the Northumbria National park, Hadrian's Wall, part of this location rich Roman heritage.

In 14th -17th century this location was lawless place, beset with feuds & bloody battles between warring families from both sides of the Border, many of whom ancestors remain today. Longtown built on the banks of the river Esk still has the remains of a number of castles, fortifications & battlefields, which bore witness to these times, known as 'The Debatable Lands'.

The battle of Solway Moss in 1542 is linked to the legend of King Arthur, in the parish of Arthuret.

The church was originally built on the outskirts of the town & was served by the monks of Jedburgh Abbey, being rebuilt in 1609.The Border esk river is renowned for salmon & sea trout fishing.
