The cottage has access to a private pebble beach (with a sandy beach a short drive away) and the grounds and gardens of Achaglachgach Estate are close by for walks. The loch is perfect for kayaking and there is also a popular cycle route along the Crinan Canal nearby. The adjoining woodlands are rich with wild and bird life and are popular with animal enthusiasts who can walk for miles taking in the region’s flora and fauna. Tarbert village is a short drive and a little further afield, visitors are able to sail to islands such as Ghigha and Jura. Built around an inlet on Loch Fyne, Tarbert has long been both a harbour and a key strategic point in the history of Scotland's rugged West Coast. Tarbert once required three castles to protect it, and the ruins of one of these can still be visited today. Built around the natural harbour, fishing and sailing continue to play an important part in the life of the village. There are many annual events to interest all tastes including the sailing regatta on Loch Fyne, seafood and music festivals. The 87 mile Kintyre Way stretches from Tarbert to the south of the Kintyre Peninsula, and offers walking for all levels and with ferry connections to Islay and Arran, there is simply no better location to relax and explore this rugged and picturesque part of Scotland.
