Rothesay, the island’s main town, has a lovely promenade, with its stunning ever-changing views across the bay, the gardens with award-winning floral displays, the Isle of Bute Discovery Centre with tourist information and cinema, castle, museum, ferry terminal, bus terminal, supermarkets, cafés and restaurants. You can enjoy plenty of activities on the Isle of Bute, from adventure experiences and watching wildlife, to visiting historical sites. Popular walks around the island include the West Island Way. There are three golf courses on the island, along with a putting green in Rothesay, as well as sandy beaches galore where, if lucky, you can spy ospreys, terns, basking sharks, humpback whales, dolphins and seals.
The Isle of Bute has been an important island historically, with marks left on the island that can be visited, from standing stones to the location of a Viking parliament, and more recently Rothesay Castle. Mount Stuart House and Gardens offers a fantastic day visit, and St Blane’s Chapel is situated in a tranquil corner of the island. In the summer you can book tickets to take a trip on the famous paddle steamer, The Waverley. Port Bannantyne offers a marina, pubs, restaurant, post office/shop and pétanque club. The main ferry crossing from Wemyss Bay to Rothesay takes approximately 35 minutes and for access to the Cowal Peninsula, the ferry from Rhubodach to Colintraive, only a 10-minute drive away, takes only 3 minutes, both do not need to be booked in advance. Beach 25 yards.

The cottage is good, if a little pricey. We had issues with the showers and control of water heat. Some sink plugs leaked requiring topping up as it was being used. Little things. Overall comfort was great. It worked very well for three generations of a family.

8 of us are just back yesterday from staying in this beautiful cottage. It was me late grans birthday on Friday 11th April, so decided to get the family together and have a 4 night break away. On turning up at the house, we couldn't quite believe the size and location. The pictures really don't do it justice. The house itself at no point felt that 8 people were living on top of each other. In fact I remember saying to me grandad "never thought I would be in a house with 7 others and not hear or see anyone" whilst I was sat in kitchen. The kitchen is really well equipped with everything you need for cooking. There's even complimentary sachets of coffee, tea bags, hot chocolate, sugar & even biscuits. There was also a bottle of prosecco cooling in the fridge which was yet another lovely touch. There was plenty of towels and even dishwasher tablets. As you open the kitchen doors, the views onto the bay really are something else. Me mum loved her morning coffee whilst sitting out whilst taking in the views. Everyone said how comfortable the beds were too. There's a local pub/restaurant 0.9 miles up road. The "Kingarth", which we booked for dinner on me grans birthday. The food was tasty and was fairly priced. Rothsay was only 14/15 minutes in the car. Seriously I genuinely don't personally know the owners of this amazing cottage and ALL I say is from personal experience. We'll definitely be back.
