On the Isle of Mull, the lovely village of Salen is located midway between Craignure, the main ferry station, and Tobermory, the island's capital. Salen has two hotels, an Italian restaurant, and a coffee shop, as well as a summer agricultural fair. Mountain biking, pony trekking, walking, and bird watching are all available in and around Salen. The spectacular beauty of the Gribun rocks on the west coast, the wonderful expanse of Calgary Bay and its beach, and, of course, Tobermory, which was recently used as the location for the popular BBC children's programme 'Balamory,' make Salen a great base for exploring this inner Hebridean island. Tobermory is the island's major town, featuring a variety of restaurants and stores, as well as a whisky distillery and a chocolate factory, all of which are well worth a visit.
