The traditional resort town of Dunoon sits on the Cowal Peninsula in Argyll on the west coast of Scotland. The journey to Dunoon can be made by ferry across the Firth of Clyde, which is one of the top sailing regions in the world, or by driving through amazing scenery of towering mountains and lochs, each more beautiful than the last. Dunoon is reachable by both land and sea. The region hosts a variety of events throughout the year, including sailing competitions, cuisine and music festivals, and the Highland Gathering, which is said to be the biggest and most spectacular in the entire globe. In addition to a high street filled with mostly independent stores that offers a delightfully unusual shopping experience, Dunoon itself has a large number of taverns, coffee shops, and restaurants serving local seafood. With its walled garden, towering Giant Sequoia trees, and hillside walkways offering views over Holy Loch, known for its shipbuilding heritage and which, for a long time, served as a US Navy submarine facility, Benmore Botanic Garden is well worth a visit.
