Oban Seil Farm is a working farm with 100 sheep, 2 ponies and hens. We have waterfront with a pontoon for your boats and canoes, a big barbecue area on the shore and 100 acres of rolling hills with the most stunning views on the West Coast.

If you walk up to the top of our hill behind the farm, (maybe you want to bring a flask) you will see the most amazing views to countless islands (Yes, we do have clear days) We have converted the steading into holiday houses that all have amazing views over the Seil Sound from your house. This is a magic spot where you can go for many beautiful walks ( if you walk on our shore, be careful not to step on the wild orchids in May) Or you can go outside your house, watch the boats in the distance, the waves rolling, the sky changing. Seil Island is part of the Slate Islands, together with Luing, Belnahua and Easdale Island. We have 2 pubs and a shop where you can get most things. Oban is 13 miles away and has shops, restaurants, a cinema and last but not least, ferries to the inner and outer Hebrides.

We are Nick and Bette Hunter, we have lived on Oban Seil farm for over 30 years and brought up our 4 children up here. When we bought the farm all those years ago it was a very different place and throughout the years we have constantly worked and improved this beautiful Gem. Now the kids have all flown the nest and we have more time to ourselves. We love walking up Monros (which are mountains over 300 feet in Scotland) You only need to drive for less that an hour to get to Glencoe where there is the most incredible mountains, some difficult to climb and some easy to walk up. If you are not interested in walking it is still an amazing place to see, you do not need to go far from here to see very different landscapes flora and fauna. Magic moments are there to be grasped.

Seil Island, where we live, is part of the Slate islands Luing, Easdale and Belnahua. These islands main industry were quarrying for slate, and all the small charming cottages in the villages here are where the slate workers used to live. Due to a number of reasons, including big storms, WWW, the mines closed and were eventually flooded. Some of these pools are now swimming pools for the brave and a favourite spot for our children to dive into on a warm summer's evening.

From Seil we have ferries over to Luing and Easdale and we recommend you to spend at least a day sampling the other islands.

If you want to go further afield, perhaps go to Kilmartin where you can one of the most important concentrations of Bronze Age relics in Scotland as well as standing stones and other prehistoric remains.

If you feel flush you can fly out to Colonsay in a small 6 seater plane, fly over the most stunning display of sea and islands, and you can be back in a day - just enough time to have lunch and back again for the flight back to Oban. But, to be honest, being here, walk down to the shore, have a barbecue, maybe pick your own mussels and cook them in white wine, nothing is better x x .
