About this property

Ormidale Garden Cottage is a pretty, cosy and accessible holiday cottage on the beautiful Ormidale Estate, overlooking the Kyles of Bute in Argyll. Though designed for comfortable independent occupancy by a party of two to four, it actually has five beds and at capacity can accommodate four adults and four additional children.  With everything on the ground floor it is also accessible for guests who use a wheelchair. It's often booked alongside other cottages on the estate for larger groups or events. The holiday cottage has easy access to outdoor activities and attractions near Argyll's Secret Coast, with on-site amenities including a heated pool, games room, and tennis court. Guests can enjoy walking, cycling, golfing, fishing, ferry trips to nearby islands like Bute, Islay and Arran, and day trips to Inverary, Loch Lomond, Glen Coe, Oban & Campbelltown.

Ormidale Garden Cottage is a sweet holiday home on the grounds of a historic estate on the Kyles of Bute in Argyll. It has beautiful views and is accessible for guests who use a wheelchair or need to avoid stairs. While mainly used for two people, clever interior design can stretch the accommodation to four adults and four children. Bigger parties often book the Garden Cottage with one of the other lovely holiday cottages on the Ormidale Estate, catering for extended families, weddings, or other group events. However, the location of Garden Cottage makes it perfect for couples or solo travellers planning a self-catering holiday in the Scottish Highlands.

People visit the Highlands for the incredible landscape, whose beauty inspires art as well as adventure. The Ormidale Estate occupies 22 prime acres between Colintraive and Tighnabruaich, near an area considered by those in the know as Argyll's Secret Coast. Not only are you within easy reach of the stunning Kyles of Bute, but the estate is barely a stone's throw from the River Ruel with good access to the A8003 and National Cycle Route 75. Exploring this part of Scotland is pure heaven in all seasons, with some of the finest views from the estate itself. Wander the grounds or borrow a bicycle to enjoy the sight of mountains and waterfalls, paddle in the stream, or shade yourself in a forest of 17,000 trees. Also on the estate are a heated swimming pool, a football pitch, a games room, and a tennis court.

Six golf courses are within 40 minutes of the cottage, and the owners of Ormidale Estate have golf clubs for guests to borrow. Anglers will love fishing by the sea, on lochs, or in rivers, and there is ample opportunity for sailing. Take the ferry from Colintraive to the Isle of Bute, which is about 15 minutes away, or visit Arran, Islay, Jura, or Gigha. Adventures on Mull, Iona, and Skye are also possible. Day trips can include Glen Coe, Stirling, and Oban, all driveable in around two hours. Half an hour further, but still close enough for a day trip, are Edinburgh, Fort William, and Ben Nevis.

Accommodation Comprises:

Ormidale Garden Cottage is more than it seems. On the surface, it is a classic cottage built from stone and comfortably furnished for two people. However, the owners have made the space impressively flexible to accommodate four adults and four or five children. Accommodation is all on one level and suitable for guests using a wheelchair or walking aid.

  • Cook, eat, and socialise in the central space, which is big enough to have a comfortable sofa (which converts into a bed for two adults), a dining table for two, and a well-equipped kitchenette.
  • While not suitable for fancy meals, the kitchen has a full-sized oven and is perfect for simple cooking for two.
  • A sleeping nook off the main living area has an extra bed and is cosy for children and younger teens.
  • Another sleeping nook is near the bathroom and has bunk beds. Again, this space is great for kids.
  • The bathroom has a shower, WC and hand basin.
  • Outside: Garden Cottage guests have a terrace with seating and a river view. They can also enjoy the gardens shared with other cottages on the estate.

Additional Information: Utilities, bed linen, and towels are provided. The cottage's WiFi is patchy and unsuitable for streaming films or working. Smoking is not permitted.
