The area is rich in history and is an ideal base for touring, hillwalking, bird watching, horse-riding, visiting castles, National Trust properties and Pictish stones. To the east are the very good beaches of the Angus Coastline, whilst to the west the Angus Glens are a challenge for all walking abilities. Forfar Loch attracts anglers, walkers and wildlife, whilst Glamis Castle is a short drive away. There are several very good golf courses within an hour’s drive, not least St Andrews and Carnoustie.
