I spent nearly £1600-00 on 4 nights at this cottage as I thought i would treat the family to something special , the reason for paying so much was my expectation was high due the cost of other cottages on your site .

I feel completely ripped off as this cottage did not come up to the £400 per night experience expected . On arrival the owner told us there was no WI FI ...having 2 teenagers in the party wasn't the best start , the cottage was small and cramped and reminded me of a sauna as it was timber clad through out .not to a good standard either , we decided we would make the best of it but here are some of the faults we experienced... cuboards hadn't been cleaned ..fridge filthy ..microwave hadn't been cleaned ..sofa had something sticky on the back of it ..don't believe the place had been cleaned before change over ...no washing up liquid ...no tablets for the dish washer ..no tea coffee salt and pepper ...chewing gum stuck to the bottom of the basin in the sink ...all linen and towels were tired and grey in colour...cushions on sofa thread bare ...kettle needed descaled . The site has a picture of the cottage side on but what it doesn't show is the farm building with farm materials and machinery for you to look out at in the front when you exit the cottage The bottom bedroom was so small you had to push the bed back to get the door closed then there was a sharp bit on the bed that cut my brother in law When the pool was advertised it forgot to mention that it was situated in the owners house some 100 yards from the cottage ,you had to call the owner to make sure you could get in . On New Year's Day we phoned and were told that it was closed but she would open it up for us this was not mentioned when booking , we also run out of toilet paper and were given 1 roll between 6 of us , the whole experience was unprofessional to say the least . I am absolutely fizzing with the fact I paid so much for a place I wouldn't have paid more than £600-00 for now that I have been and experienced the place . I am now waiting to hear what feedback you give me before making my next move ...your website has helped in this deception and you should take some of the responsibility for this debacle . Yours ripped off Alistair Harkness

I started my 3 weeks Scotland holiday in Steading cottage for a week in 2023.

I am very keen of cleanliness, and in the past I was a hotel housekeeper spot-checker manager. I exactly know it's not easy to hit my standard. But Steading cottage made it:) I didn't find anything below my (very high) standard, even ready ice cubes were waiting in the freezer to make my gin-tonic happy after my long journey! The owner is a friendly, kind and smiley lady, and a very expert host, with this spotlessly cleanliness I would even bet her star sign is Virgo (just like mine). The cottage is a separate house next to a working farm, but I never heard any disturbing noise. True, that I was out every day for long, but when I was back, the farm was quiet and very-very peaceful. Just what I love! I spent some evenings in the small, well maintained beautiful garden, and also in the front of the farm, leaning on the stone fence watching the beautiful sunset far above the hills. Fabulous viewing! It is also in a very good location, 3 minutes drive from the little town Kirriemuir. Also, I could reach all attractions in the middle and middle-east Scotland, so among other things I visited Blair castle, Highland safaris, Balmoral castle, Dunninald castle, the east-coast, Drum castle, Pitmedden garden, Hopetoun house, The Kelpies and so many on. True, that I found the B roads very bumpy and potholed, some of them flooded, but this was the case almost all of the east; while later on the west side, near the lakes and mountains, the roads were well maintained and perfect (more tourists-more money). I still loved the whole east, too, with its rolling hills, further horizon and gentle sights, and to enjoy all of these, Steading cottage was a perfect starting point. I loved to get back there after a long and busy day, and have a deep restful sleep on the perfect mattress in the comfortable, clean house! I tried a few cottages all UK-wide within my holidays, but so far this cottage is among the first! I hope to go back one day:)

This listing does not live up to its description.

It is a cold, unwelcoming place where the heating is insufficient in every respect. Cold floors, draughty windows, a lack of insulation in this outbuilding lead to it having an unaired, abandoned feel and certainly not suitable for a winter break. It can be found up about a mile up the farm track, with a dark, dense wooded view from the kitchen and a view of the back of a farmhouse from the front. There is no name on the cottage which stands next to a delapidated greenhouse with sharp glass which has been allowed to cave in and stay where it fell. We left after 2 nights because the bed was so horribly and unbelievably cold. We left the heating on all day on our second day but the building retains no warmth at all. The minute the heating goes off, it becomes cold again. There is insufficient lighting in the lounge/diner for reading which is not cosy, even with a log fire. The owners had kitted out the kitchen well and left eggs as a welcome gesture which was nice but even the black , windowless bathroom was quite depressing. We did not contact the owners before we left as there is nothing they could have done to improve things for us. Sykes' representative's naïve comment that we should have talked to them first so that they could have turned up the thermostat showed a lack of understanding of the severity of our issues. We have both lived in a rural setting in the north of England and are used to inclement , winter weather. We have been Sykes customers for over 20 years and have always had a good experience. This means we will not be booking our next holiday with Sykes.

We were extremely disappointed in our cottage on arrival.

The advertisement said that it sleeps 6. Which it has enough beds for 6 and 2 bathrooms, however the sitting area and table does not accommodate a family of 6. The dining area chairs are right in front of the doors to a bedroom and makes it too hard to move, the sitting area barely seats 4, and makes it tight to walk. The cottage had cob webs, the show screen had mold and the outside table was moldy. The cottage was overpriced. At the price advertised, we expected a clean and suitably sized cottage, this was not the case at all. There wasn't even paper towel and we needed to request an extra dish cloth and tea towel. The freezer made a beeping noise if you used it, and one of the stove burners didn't work. The cottage is located on a kennel / working farm and while we were there our room backed onto the area where they were working, you could here dogs barking, people working and machinery from all times during the early morning and day. The pool was nice, however we were not provided with any extra towels. I would not recommend this cottage to anyone.

This was the most delightful cottage!

Spotlessly clean, beautiful location and very well equipped! It has everything you could possibly need - including a washing line!! So many places boast a washing machine but have nowhere to dry it!! The spiral staircase could prove problematic to anyone with mobility issues or young children but we didn’t have any of those problems! Lynnette was lovely, introducing herself when we arrived and, although we didn’t have any issues, I’m sure if we had, she would have sorted them immediately! The garden was perfect for our dog and it was great being able to leave the doors open so he could go in and out as he pleased! The only downside - we couldn’t get to stay longer! We visit Scotland to see family regularly and we will definitely look no further than Lynnette and her wonderful cottage for every visit, from here on in!!
