Closer to home, Crathes Castle (16 miles) is a classic Scottish tower house famed for its walled garden and is close to Banchory (13 miles) where you can shop for self-catering supplies. Alternatively, visit Aboyne (7.5 miles) for a fine choice of stores and eateries.
