Guests say

Pennan Lodge is highly praised for its peaceful and stunning location, offering beautiful views and a perfect base for exploring the Aberdeenshire coast. Guests appreciate the clean, well-equipped, and comfortable accommodation, noting its warmth and homeliness. The night sky and potential sightings of the northern lights add to the charm. While most feedback is positive, a few guests mention minor issues with maintenance and cleanliness.

The majority of guests found the cottage to be clean and well-maintained. However, one review mentioned mould in the bathroom and a need for a more thorough clean, slightly lowering the score.

The location is consistently lauded for its tranquillity, stunning coastal views, and proximity to nature reserves, beaches, and villages. It's considered an excellent base for exploring the region.

Guests describe the cottage as comfortable, cosy, and homely, with a warm atmosphere. One review mentioned an issue with bed cover size, but overall, the comfort level is rated highly.

Facilities are generally well-regarded, with the cottage being described as well-equipped. Some guests experienced issues with worn cooker settings and water pressure, indicating room for improvement.

While guests mention a welcome package, there is insufficient information to assess the consistency or quality of thoughtfulness across all stays. Therefore, it cannot be guaranteed that such amenities will be provided.

Both properties boast fantastic sea views; Mill Shore Cottage has a cosy living room which features windows on two sides allowing uninterrupted viewing of Mill Shore below – a secluded shingle beach with sandy shallows beyond, offering a unique perspective on the abundant marine life – seals can be spotted easily in the bay, whilst further out whales and dolphins are often sighted. Pennan Lodge again has marvellous views of Pennan itself and the bay beyond. In addition to the amazing marine life, just round the corner and visible from the cottages is Troup Head, a renowned nature reserve featuring the only UK mainland colony of gannets. Next door is Cullykhan Beach, another secluded cove reached by a steep walk down to the shore. Pennan is renowned for its famous phone box as featured in the film ’Local Hero’ but it is a lovely village in its own right, typical of those strung out along this rugged coastline, including Crovie and Gardenstown, reached by steep winding roads to the bottom of the cliffs from which they cling. This is a fabulous cottage if you want to get away from it all and enjoy peace and quiet while overlooking the sea.The hosts were able to accommodate us at incredibly short notice and the cottage was snug and warm when we arrived on a cold and wet February evening. Don't expect to have everything on your doorstep because it really isn't that type of location but you will find some amazing little coves and villages to explore just a stones throw away.Visit and enjoy, it really was just what we needed.
