Alternatively take your glass of wine through the patio doors to the outside seating and watch the summer sun set, often in quite spectacular fashion. Banff itself has a history dating back to the 12th century. It was built as a port on the west bank of the river Deveron. The town boasts interesting architecture, a harbour and a marina which is just a short walk from the apartment. Within walking distance there are a variety of shops, cafes, bars and restaurants. Breakfast, morning coffee, lunch, afternoon tea and dinner are all available locally. All tastes are catered for from fine dining to handy fast food takeaways. Excellent seafood is available to buy locally if you’d prefer to cook your own. If you can pull yourself away from watching the tide roll in and out there are a wide variety of activities to whet your appetite with two golf courses close by and many more a short drive away, castles to explore on the coast and inland and too many beaches to mention although surfers are a fairly common sight at Sandend. The Moray Coast is relatively undiscovered and has a quiet quaintness that will leave lasting memories. Portsoy's 17th century harbour has recently been used to film Peaky Blinders, before this it was used for the remake of Whisky Galore. Pennan along the coast still retains the red telephone box featured in the film Local Hero. Whisky distilleries are peppered all over this area and many have restaurants and give guided tours. If fishing is your thing then the Deveron and the Spey is popular. Banff is an Outstanding Conservation Area and is famous for its outstanding architecture, including Georgian architecture that can be found in the upper part of the town. Banff Harbour is now a recreational harbour and marina, and the town boasts spectacular sea views, sandy beaches, shops and seafood restaurants. Close by there us two golf courses and an award-winning Marine Aquarium, as well as the 17th century Duff House and estate.
