A former coaching inn, the building was converted some years ago into these lovely apartments and The Monaltrie features many of the pleasing aspects of the building, including high-ceilinged, spacious rooms, beautiful bay windows in the living room and master bedroom and, uniquely, direct access from the living room to the manicured lawns which lead down to the River Dee. The property is furnished with comfort and style and is a brilliant choice for exploring the village and the majestic scenery of the area.
Ballater is of course well known for its royal connections and members of the Royal Family often visit unannounced. However you don’t have to be a royalist to enjoy this lovely village, it has many attractive elements – interesting, quirky shops, fabulous tearooms and good restaurants, renowned golf course and of course the majestic River Dee which runs alongside - leisurely walks can be enjoyed along its banks. Close by is Royal Lochnagar Distillery which produces one of Scotland’s most exclusive whiskys – a visit is a must. The surrounding area is blessed with amazing scenery; a haven for outdoor enthusiasts, the adventurous can tackle the region’s famous mountains including Lochnagar, made famous by Lord Byron and Prince Charles who wrote a children’s book about ‘The Old Man of Lochnagar’. A few miles to the south lies Loch Muick where red deer, golden eagles and grouse can be easily spotted on the 8 mile surrounding footpath. There are good opportunities for canoeing and mountain biking as well as skiing at the Lecht and Glenshee during the winter months and the castles and gardens at Balmoral, Crathes and Craigievar are well worth a visit.
Free WiFi
There is open water in the property grounds.

There was no “welcome pack” and no instructions on what socket in the kitchen supplied which appliance. Consequently couldn’t get the oven to work. Also as every cupboard was full, very little room to store own food. We had hired electric bikes and no real room to store them as the owners cage was full. On the last 2 days the Netflix application did not work. However the apartment is nice with a lovely view and in a great location so overall we had a great stay.
