About this property

Pets and short breaks welcome

Spring Special in Royal Deeside,  full of character The Grove can now be booked from only £439 per week, or a 3 night short break is only £308 as all available stays between 1st April & 2nd June have been discounted by 10%!!

Wonderfully located in the centre of Royal Deeside, The Grove is a cottage full of character with accommodation to suit both family holidays or a get away from it all break for a couple.  The cottage has been carefully renovated to provide a spacious layout without loss of its traditional feel. The sitting room adjoins a sunroom with patio doors creating a lovely bright room from which to enjoy the wildlife that visits the garden.

Whatever your interests Royal Deeside offers something for everyone be it exploring Castles, Nature Trails, Walking, Cycling, Fishing, Skiing or outdoor sports in the fabulous Cairngorm National Park, and not to forget the best of Whisky Trails to follow. Whilst enjoying a wee dram amongst the scenery, most distilleries now give a gift set of miniatures to their visitors so that the Driver does not miss out.

Castles in the area are too many to mention so it's worth thinking of joining the National Trust for Scotland for free entry to Drum Castle at Drum Oak, Crathes Castle near Banchory or the beautiful pink Craigievar Castle which is reputed to have inspired Walt Disney's Cinderella Castle, to name but a few. Despite the choice don't forget to make time for the grounds and gardens of Kincardine Castle and Estate which is on the doorstep, offering local walks and cycling around the river Dee. Routes include the Deeside Way which uses the route of the old railway line from Aberdeen to Ballater. Slightly further is the Deeside walk to Potarch, about 2 and a half miles, where you can enjoy either lunch or dinner in the restaurant/cafe before returning to the cottage. Of course, you cannot visit Royal Deeside without seeing Balmoral (30 mins away) which feature woodland walks, cycle routes, wildlife hides, cameras and ranger guides, not to mention country sporting opportunities and golf.

The National Trust for Scotland also has many sites that are superb for wildlife, the best known is possibly Mar lodge.  Mar Lodge contains four of the five highest mountains in the UK and is very important for the preservation of the Caledonian pine forest with its important inhabitants including blackcock, eagles, otters and red squirrels. Whilst there are walks to suit all at Mar Lodge if you would rather enjoy the scenery by car then try the wiggly A93/ A939 which runs along the eastern side of the Cairngorms from Glenshee to the Lecht. Please note however that it's a small winding road suited to those who wish to take the time to enjoy the glorious surroundings.

Closer to hand a 15-minute drive takes you to National Nature Reserves at Muir of Dinnet or Glen Tanar. Muir of Dinnet has attractive walks through Birch woodlands and along the loch shore for the flash of a damselfly's wings, continuing to the impressive Burn O'Vat waterfall and pot hole where the rock walls surround you in a damp embrace. The range of activities at Glen Tanar cater for all with way marked paths, bike trail, cross country skiing and pony trekking, as well as fishing and an access route to Mount Keen, the most easterly Munro.
