About this property

Portglenone 2.9 miles. This old farm cottage sits in a rural setting a few miles from the village of Portglenone, Country Antrim. Offering delightful living over the ground-floor, The Poets Cottage provides a magnificent escape for a family of four and their canine companions. Upon arrival you are greeted by two off-road parking spaces directly outside the property, so you can easily unload your belongings. Allow the designated chef to get acquainted in the kitchen, fitted with an electric oven and hob, microwave, fridge/freezer and even a dishwasher, so you won’t have to raise a finger when washing up! After dinner, turn the dining table upside down and transform it into a ping pong table, providing endless family entertainment. Cross the threshold into the sitting room, where you can chat about the adventures to come or pop the TV on and unwind. As the evening comes to a close, make yourself at home in the bedrooms, both complete with double beds and ample storage. Start the morning with a refreshing rinse in the shower room before tackling the day. Roughly 100 metres away is the River Bann, with private access directly from the property, making an idyllic stroll after dinner. The property is close to the village of Portglenone where you can find your nearest shop and three pubs, perfect for treating the group to a meal out. While in the area, pop your walking boots on and explore Portglenone Forest or wander the Portglenone Marina and Monastery. The River Bann Boat Tours make a lovely day out, or for a more exhilarating day on the water, make the journey to The Lake at Kilrea for a wealth of watersporting activities to enjoy with the family. The delightful towns of Ballymoney and Ballymena are just a scenic drive away and both provide more vibrant nightlife, and chances to explore local history in Ballymoney Museum or the Mid-Antrim Museum. Ballymena is also perfect for those seeking a bit of retail therapy, boasting many high street names and a large shopping centre. Brush up on some history at Seamus Heaney Home Place, or explore Dark Hedges, known for its moody scenery used in the popular Game of Thrones. Why not take a trip to Belfast, the capital city of Northern Ireland, and experience true Irish culture and visit a range of museums? Giants Causeway, Derry city, Portrush and Ballycastle are all reachable from the property with just a scenic drive too. There’s plenty to look forward to at The Poets Cottage.

In Northern Ireland's Antrim county is the village of Portglenone. Three pubs, including the Wild Duck Inn, which serves meals and a variety of ales, a convenience shop, and other services are located inside the village. Ballymena, which is close by, has a lot to see and do, including the urban People's Park, Fairhill Shopping Center, and the Galgorm Castle Fairy Trail, which kids are sure to enjoy. Our host couldn’t have been more helpful either. Would love to come back when the sun flowers are out in bloom. Thanks again for a lovely time Mark and Lucy

It is in a lovely rural location and central for exploring Northern Ireland, Easy reach of Belfast, Antrim coast and further Derry. Facilities such as shops and a good pub/restaurant in Portglenone. There is everything you need for self catering but one or two small items missing such as a colander. The owner was friendly and helpful but not intrusive. In all a lovely place and we would return and recommend to friends and family

The only improvements I would suggest would be better kitchen equipment e.g oven dishes and wooden spoons and a frying pan usable on the induction hob. But we loved our stay and would stay again.
