Beckside is a charming, cosy cottage in a tranquil village setting, ideal for couples seeking a peaceful retreat with easy access to the North York Moors and coast. Guests consistently praise the warm welcome from the owners, the well-equipped and comfortable accommodation, and the beautiful surroundings, including a nearby beck and excellent local pub. While a few minor suggestions are made regarding towels, pillows, and kitchen lighting, the overall experience is overwhelmingly positive, with many guests eager to return.
The majority of reviews describe the cottage as clean, spotless, and well-maintained. Only one review mentions a need for a more thorough spring clean and minor paintwork touch-ups, but this is outweighed by consistently positive feedback.
Guests repeatedly highlight the peaceful, picturesque village location, proximity to walking routes, and easy access to attractions such as the Moors, Whitby, and York. The setting is frequently described as idyllic and perfect for exploring North Yorkshire.
The cottage is widely described as cosy, comfortable, and homely, with a good bed and modern bathroom. A few guests mention small towels and lumpy pillows, but these are minor points in otherwise glowing feedback.
Facilities are generally praised, with the cottage being well-equipped for two people. Some guests note the kitchen is compact and suggest improvements to cooking facilities and lighting. WiFi is appreciated, though mobile signal is limited.
Many guests mention a warm, personal welcome from the owners and occasional gifts such as a bottle of wine. While these gestures are appreciated, it should be noted that such gifts are not guaranteed for every stay.
A detached 18th century, stone-built former stable, set next to the owner's home in a quiet corner of the delightful village of Lastingham. Lovingly restored, decorated and furnished, the property has been finished to a high standard, and provides first-class holiday accommodation. The accommodation is all ground floor, and the lovely open-plan living area has French doors leading to a patio area overlooking the village stream. A great base from which to explore the area, the property is within the Moors National Park, and Whitby, the famous coastline and the pretty villages and market towns of the region are within easy reach.
The tiny village of Lastingham is a quiet haven on the edge of the North York Moors with beautiful countryside all around it. The best known building in the village is the Crypt Church of St Mary with its ancient crypt. St Cedd founded a monastery in Lastingham in the 7th Century, but it was destroyed by the Danes in the 9th Century. Pickering is seven miles away and is home to The Beck Isle Museum, which is housed in a handsome Regency property near the centre of the town. Other attractions in the town include The North Yorks Moors Steam Railway. With many castles, historic houses, abbeys, churches and other heritage sites, along with the glorious surrounding countryside, this is a tremendous base for a memorable holiday.

He took care to explain how everything worked and we appreciated that. We were delighted with the cottage. All its equipment is new or nearly new and the furniture is smart and very comfortable. No dishwasher but it is a cottage for only two and washing up was no chore. The cottage is located right in the middle of this beautiful and historic village beside a small beck. It has a small, peaceful courtyard with table and chairs. The village pub is welcoming and great for both food and drink - although it is certainly wise to book if you wish to eat. The church opposite is magnificent and well worth a visit. We were delighted with our break in this small, well appointed and cosy cottage. We will certainly seek to book it again.
