A short walk leads to the heart of the quaint village, where visitors will conveniently find a community shop, post office, choice of two pubs serving traditional meals, a fish and chip shop, and an Indian restaurant and takeaway. There are numerous walks and cycling trails from the doorstep, and just beyond, lie the Howardian Hills, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Local attractions include stately homes at Sutton Park, Castle Howard and Nunnington Hall, abbey ruins at Byland and Rievaulx, and family fun at Flamingoland and Go Ape. Bustling market towns can be found at Easingwold, Malton and Helmsley, and there are numerous picturesque villages with traditional country inns serving generous Yorkshire hospitality and real ales. The ancient city of York is just a 20-minute drive away and appeals to all ages, with historic buildings and museums, river boat trips and street entertainers. Lovely welcome from the hosts. The garden was really beautiful. However, the bedding and towels smelt damp. There was a terrible smell from the shower drain and the shower tray and sink weren't very clean. For me there was too much clutter and nowhere for your own things especially as the cottage is quite small. Ok if you are eating out but nowhere to prep food and the draining board looks lovely but is very impractical for leaving dishes to drain. It's a good location for getting about.

Welcoming, friendly and helpful hosts. Amazing garden. Well appointed and comfortable. The village shop and pubs are very good. There is so much to do in the area, well worth a visit.
