Kate's Cottage is a charming, cosy retreat in a peaceful village near York, ideal for couples and dog owners. Guests consistently praise its cleanliness, welcoming touches, and well-equipped amenities. The location is perfect for exploring local attractions, walking, and enjoying the friendly village pub. While the large roll-top bath adds character, several guests found the lack of a stand-up shower less practical. Overall, the cottage offers a warm, comfortable stay with thoughtful extras, making it a popular choice for repeat visitors.
Multiple reviews highlight the cottage as spotlessly clean and extremely well maintained, with no negative comments regarding cleanliness.
The location is frequently described as peaceful, beautiful, and ideal for exploring the surrounding area, with easy access to walks, attractions, and a friendly local pub. The only minor drawback mentioned is the limited amenities in the village itself.
Guests find the cottage very cosy, warm, and comfortable, with a comfy bed and relaxing atmosphere. Some mention the cottage is a bit small for longer stays or for those bringing lots of belongings, and several note the bath is impractical for some guests.
The cottage is well equipped for short stays, with a good kitchen, fireplace, and dog-friendly features. However, the lack of a stand-up shower and the size of the bath are noted as drawbacks, and the kitchen is described as basic by some.
Guests frequently mention thoughtful touches such as welcome packs, fresh flowers, and dog treats. Please note that these gifts are not guaranteed for every stay.

The bespoke kitchen is well-equipped with a Belfast sink, granite worktops and a quarry tiled floor. The breakfast bar is adjacent and makes a lovely addition to this sociable space. The local village pub is a mere three minute walk from the cottage and is well known for its beer festivals and pizza nights. The magnificent stately home of the Howard family, Castle Howard, is a short drive from the cottage and is home to ITVs ‘Victoria’ programme and of course the filming location of ‘Brideshead Revisited’. The Christmas experience is also one of the very best in the country. There are also other stately homes in the surrounding area, including Duncombe Park and Nunnington Hall. Don’t forget the stunning gardens at Helmsley too. The Howardian Hills, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, is right on your doorstep.
This area is a fantastic base for both cyclists and walkers alike with a large network of footpaths and winding country lanes. Great little cottage. Very cosy and in a beautiful peaceful village. Great local pub within a minutes walk and lots of great walks. The cottage had everything needed for a comfortable stay. Even provided a bed, treats and towels for the dog.Really comfy bed. Lovely courtyardOnly negative is the bath. Whilst it looks beautiful it is HUGE, very deep and slippery and dominates the space of what is a small bathroom. Not practical at all. We are in our 60s and very flexible but feel it could be an issue for anyone not so flexible!! There is a hand held shower but it's only really useful for washing hair.. would be much better with just a shower cubicle.Other than that we would definitely return.
