In West Yorkshire, Wakefield is a cathedral city. Its location on the River Calder and at the foothills of the Pennines makes it an ideal location from which to explore this dynamic region of England. The city has a rich history surrounding The Battle of Wakefield, which took place during the Wars of the Roses, as well as being a Royalist stronghold during the Civil War. It was also an important trading centre, and has a number of attractions, such as the Wakefield Museum & Library, the National Coal Mining Museum for England, and others, that perfectly encapsulate these events. Wakefield offers much more than a day filled with historical attractions; it also offers a superb array of restaurants, cafés, and pubs, as well as a thriving nightlife with numerous bars. The city also features attractions such as The Hepworth art museum, named after the city's native Barbara Hepworth, the Theatre Royal, designed by architect Frank Matcham, where visitors can enjoy musicals, drama, live music, stand-up comedy, and dance throughout the year, as well as the ruins of Sandal Castle and the city's imposing cathedral. Explore the National Trust attraction of Nostell, a Palladian villa with a landscaped park and gardens, or travel out to view the marvel of Pontefract Castle. Leeds is easily accessible and has a vibrant atmosphere at all hours of the day. Here, you can find stunning architecture, a multitude of museums and galleries where you can learn about the city's rich culture, an abundance of shopping opportunities, and even more dining options. Bradford, Halifax, Sheffield, and Doncaster, among others, are also within easy reach for a spectacular day trip, and the Peak District National Park can be reached by a lovely drive for a day trip in a natural setting.

Furnishing was good and it was nicely decorated. However, the flat opposite ours (also managed through Sykes) seemed to have been let out for a weekend party and we were kept awake most of the first night (Saturday) with people arriving and leaving the flat from midnight to 6 am, banging of doors and noise on the landing and stairs. We received emails form Sykes and the flat owners wishing us a pleasant stay and urging us to get in touch if we needed anything. These would appear to be automated emails though. The phone number for the office stated it would not be answered outside office hours, and our emails were unanswered. The flat had a good kitchen but lacked much that we would have liked. There were only two bowls, 6 mugs and one sharp knife so the dishwasher could not be filled before putting on. We also missed: a corkscrew, tea pot, coffee maker, matches (for the candles provided) salad servers, shaving point. The heated towel rail in the bathroom did not work. It was a shame that what could have been a great flat fell short through being under-equipped and us unable to make contact with anyone to solve our problems.
