From your doorstep you join the Cleveland Way which runs along the cliff edge linking scenic coastal villages and bays from Filey in the south and up to Saltburn in the north, then continuing into the North York National Park. Just steps away you have a popular pub and hotel which serves hearty food, there is also a second pub and café all within a three-minute walk away. From the top of the village you can follow the footpath down a steep slope towards the bay where you have a cluster of historic houses teetering above the sea. There’s a small café as well as a quaint pub, exploring the winding footpaths between the cottages is like stepping back in time. The beach is beautiful, as well as being both dog and child friendly all year round. For days out you will be spoilt for choice.
Further north along the coast is Staithes and Saltburn, the latter a surfers’ paradise with a Victorian pier and tram, and beyond the enormous beach going to Marske and Redcar. To the south at Sandsend the waves dramatically crash over the sea wall at high tide, Whitby, bursting with history and drawing guests from around the world; the tangle of cobbled streets in the village of Robin Hood’s Bay cling to the cliff edge, with houses spilling right down to the water’s edge. Perhaps take the heritage steam train from Whitby on an adventure across the Esk valley, there are some quaint villages to visit along the way. For those who love the water you can join a local surf school, or row along the river Esk in the village of Ruswarp. For history lovers there are a selection of museums in Whitby as well as the nautical museum in Staithes and the mining museum in Skinningrove. Whitby Abbey and Guisborough Priory are both beautiful ruins, which are picture perfect.

What a wonderful place to stay. The photos do not do this place justice, its huge with so much space and comfort. The location is ideal up a farmers track. The views are absolutely stunning from the property. There is a pub / hotel at the end of the track, The Runswick Bay hotel which offers excellent food. Runsick Bay is a short walk down the (very steep) hill or the you can walk through the cottages which takes you down a path and through the village. Runswick Bay is very quaint and you can walk around the whole village in 15 minutes. The Royal hotel is a great place to stop for a drink and food too. Ideally located to get to Saltburn On Sea and Staithes both of which we visited and would recommend. Sadly due to the weather we didn't venture out on one of the days so didn' get anywhere else.Back to the property itself we were a party of 5 with 2 dogs, there was so much room. Each bedroom has its own spacious ensuite and there is an additional downstairs wc. The host, Susie, was so nice with her messages and responds quickly. it was incredibly windy when we stayed due to the storm, and as others have said the bedrooms are a bit noisy then and the blinds do move due to the wind but not enough to affect anything, we all slept soundly as the beds were so comfortable. I cannot recommend this place enough and have already mentioned to a few people I work with who are all looking at booking a stay now.
