Guests say

Bosuns Rest receives high praise for its spacious, comfortable, and well-equipped accommodation, with many guests highlighting its cleanliness and excellent location for exploring Staithes and the North Yorkshire coast. The property is dog-friendly, offers en-suite bedrooms, and provides convenient parking. Guests appreciate the warm welcome and helpful communication from the owner. While a few minor suggestions for improvement are mentioned, such as clearer instructions for appliances and more storage, the overall experience is overwhelmingly positive, making it a popular choice for families and groups.

Cleanliness is consistently highlighted, with multiple guests describing the property as spotless, well-maintained, and very clean. Only one minor mention of a lamp not working and a frying pan needing replacement, but these did not detract from the overall impression.

The location is frequently praised for its proximity to Staithes village, local attractions, and the North Yorkshire coast. The steep hill is noted, but guests appreciate the easy access to the harbour and on-site parking, which is a significant advantage in the area.

Guests repeatedly mention the comfort of the beds, spaciousness, and homely feel. The en-suite bedrooms and cosy atmosphere are appreciated, with only minor comments about shower height and heating instructions.

Facilities are well regarded, with guests noting the well-equipped kitchen, en-suite bathrooms, WiFi, parking, and thoughtful extras like board games. Suggestions for improvement include clearer appliance instructions, more storage, and a washing machine, but these are minor compared to the overall satisfaction.

Many guests mention welcome packs, treats, and helpful communication from the owner, which add a personal touch to their stay. However, it should be noted that such gifts are not guaranteed for every booking.

There is a leisure centre 2 miles down the road and a 2-minute stroll down the cobbled street brings you to the centre of the picturesque fishing village with its small harbour nestling beneath rugged cliffs. Step back in time and walk the quaint narrow passages, as Captain James Cook himself must have done. Here in Staithes there are village shops, pubs, cafés and a restaurant, and in 2020 the village was featured on the BBC programme ’Gone Christmas Fishing’ with Vic Reeves and Bob Mortimer. Why not travel on Harry Potter’s Hogwarts Express (the North Yorkshire Moors Railway) through ’Heartbeat’ country, or visit Whitby and its famous abbey which is 11 miles away.

Please note: As the four lodges are in close proximity to one another, they could be booked for groups of up to 24 guests. Additional en-suite rooms available on site, on request with owner.. The owner phoned me before really friendly with loads of advice on where to visit. Really nice welcoming gifts. Easy instructions to access property. Clean, loads of space there were 5 of us 3 teenagers and two adults. The WiFi signal not as good as home. There's board games in cupboard. Overall enjoyable experience good as a base to visit Scarborough and Whitley bay. I would recommend.

We had a lovely stay in Bosuns. We had some fabulous recommendations and went to Holey Mollies for a fun afternoon of crazy golf and enjoyed a rowing trip from Ruswarp, as well as exploring Whitby, Sandsend, Saltburn and Runswick bay. Bosuns proved to be a great base, and we loved Staithes too. We were a group of 4, including two older teens and a grandma, there was plenty to do to keep everyone occupied. We have an electric car and there was a really convenient charger nearby too.
