About this property

Faran House is a lovely, terraced cottage in Staithes, North Yorkshire. Perfect for a relaxing family holiday in the North York Moors National Park, the cottage has all amenities needed for a great stay, is close to the coast, and is also dog-friendly. The kitchen is well-equipped and styled with a contemporary finish featuring grey cabinets, wooden worktops, an electric oven and hob, and a washing machine. After rustling up your favourite home-cooked meal, gather your family in the dining room, a welcoming space with a wooden table that can seat six people. The sitting room has plenty of character, with a leather suite, a wood-burning stove, a TV, and a bay window that allows plenty of sunlight to come in. After action-packed days exploring the Moors, head upstairs to find a beautifully appointed bathroom to step into the walk-in shower or roll-top bath. The first two bedrooms are furnished with elegant double beds and homely decor, complete with fluffy towels and storage space, whilst the third is a snug room furnished with a single bed. You can start your mornings with a cup of coffee in the enclosed patio garden, a sun trap with outdoor furniture and space for your dogs to rest their paws. Staithes is a beautiful coastal village that is home to a selection of restaurants and bars, cafes, and takeaways, including The Fox & Hounds pub and Cod & Lobster for sea views; be sure to discover local heritage at the Captain Cook & Staithes Heritage Centre! There are plenty of walks nearby, whether that's along the coast or into the Moors, and the village is close to many historic attractions. In the seaside town of Whitby, you can climb the 199 Steps up to the ruins of Whitby Abbey, embark on a coastal cruise, or simply relax on the sands of Whitby Beach with a selection of classic seaside amusements on offer. A little further lies the picturesque fishing village of Robin Hood's Bay, or perhaps you'd prefer cycling or walking through the North Riding Forest Park? Make Faran House your home-from-home whilst exploring everything North Yorkshire has to offer.

Staithes' cobbled streets and back lanes are an artist's delight. Its lovely buildings and cottages are crowded around the historic harbour and protected by towering cliffs on three sides, with a sheltered sandy beach. Captain Cook was a draper's apprentice in the village. Staithes is a must for anyone visiting the Yorkshire Coast, with bars, shops, and tea places. Staithes has an rnli lifeboat station, a small fleet of cobles (fishing boats), and boat cruises for birdwatching, fishing, and whale viewing. Old Jack's Boat was filmed there. Staithes' Art and Heritage Festival, galleries, and artist studios offer art courses and workshops. A free Illusion Trail walks tourists through the network of ginnels (alleyways). The Cleveland Way, which descends the cliff to the sea, offers the best views of the town. Overall, a great location for touring the Yorkshire Coast, Whitby, Scarborough, and the North York Moors.

Apart from the house being comfortable and well equipped with everything we could think of, including beds which were so perfect for us we didn’t want to get up in the mornings, it was ideally positioned for the car parking space round the corner at the owner’s house, the bus stop , the excellent fish and chip shop and the local co-op. It is an easy drive to the coastal villages and towns and the North York Moors. A bus trip to Whitby took 28 minutes and no parking to worry about. Thank you to the owner for the wine, biscuits and milk- very thoughtful. We had to leave a day early sadly but hope to return in the future.
