About this property

A lovely, first floor apartment, in a Grade II listed building overlooking the historic harbour in Whitby. With superb, panoramic views, the property is perfect for couples wanting to enjoy this popular seaside town, with all its amenities right on the doorstep. Many character features have been preserved, including the high, original sash windows, window shutters and panelled walls and doors. There is a comfortable, open plan living area with a lovely, decorative cast iron Victorian fireplace, a small dining table and a kitchen, whilst the bedroom is light and spacious and also has a decorative period fireplace. From all windows, guests can sit, relax and admire the stunning views, watching the brightly coloured boats come in and out of the harbour and the famous swing bridge opening. With the shops and amenities all within a stone’s throw, you are ideally placed for exploring the quaint, narrow streets, the cobbled market place and Whitby’s many restaurants and pubs. Enjoy a cocktail in one of the harbourside bars, or partake in afternoon tea in one of the many tea rooms. Whitby has much to offer, with its 199 steps leading up to the Abbey, museums, such as the Captain Cook memorial museum, and the pretty gardens in Pannett Park. Why not book a night time ghost walk, or a whale watching trip? With the beautiful scenery of the North York Moors to discover nearby and numerous coastal and inland villages to visit, this apartment provides an ideal base, at any time of the year.

The popular fishing town of Whitby is situated at the mouth of the River Esk and is ideally situated for exploring this beautiful part of Yorkshire. The town offers winding streets, hidden alleys, a picturesque harbour, safe sandy beaches and of course the Abbey, reached by the famous 199 steps.

It is bright, welcoming and clean. We have stayed many times because it is cosy, central and has great views. It is very well maintained by the owner and has everything you would need for a holiday. They should be proud. One small criticism would be a bigger/comfy sofa. Maybe we’re getting older but we really felt it this year. The main issue is, with whoever is tasked to clean it. They let down the property by not being thorough, during change over. Guests are asked to wash and tidy everything away before leaving. However, as was with the past couple of years the dishes, glasses and pans in the cupboards are not checked for cleanliness. The glasses were greasy, on some of the plates, there was dried on food and also burnt on food in some pans. We therefore, had to wash them all before use. The extractor fan was also covered in grease and as much as we wanted to clean it; we didn’t want to risk standing on the furniture. The area between the cooker and work top was filled with crumbs and seeds and had not been brushed or cleaned out. We also found a dirty bath towel in the bathroom. This is unacceptable, as in the past we’ve found dirty clothes left from previous occupiers in the bathroom. As we stated previously, we love this apartment and hope these issues are addressed, so we can continue to return.

Nicely decorated with loads of period details. It's ideally situated close to town. It is grade 2 listed with single glazed windows but we did not find the slight road noise obtrusive. Marvellous views of the harbour and swing bridge. A really beautiful apartment.
