After a great day out, relax on the comfortable sofa—which converts to a double bed—in the spacious open-plan living/kitchen/dining area. Appliances in the well-kitted kitchen include a coffee machine and wine cooler, while the separate double bedroom is both cosy and sumptuous, with a velvety bedspread in jewel-like blue. A sleek walk-in shower room completes the layout.

Wander down Whitby’s characterful byways to find independent shops, some selling the town’s famous black jet. With fishing boats still working out of the harbour, this is a great place to snap up catch of the day and enjoy some of the best seafood restaurants and fish and chips shops to be found. Test your stamina on the famous 199 steps leading to the dramatic, 13th_century ruins of Whitby Abbey, said to have inspired Bram Stoker’s Count Dracula. Your reward will be a splendid view of the town and coast. The town is also famous for its association with Captain Cook, and you can visit a fascinating replica of his ship, the HMS Endeavour.
