To the rear of the property is a private courtyard, a suntrap where you can sit and enjoy a drink taking in the wonderful uninterrupted views across the valley and the rolling countryside. With some of the best walks in Yorkshire, Glaisdale is a great base for walkers, cyclists and those wishing to experience the beauty of the North York Moors National Park. The village lies just south of the River Esk where there’s excellent fly fishing to be had (licences can be purchased from the local shop). The Esk Valley Railway runs through the village. Trains run from Whitby to Middlesbrough on a regular basis. From Whitby you can also catch the steam train over the moors to the market town of Pickering.

The town and seaside resort of Whitby is less than 10 miles away where you’ll find an array of shops, pubs and restaurants. Whitby is still a busy working harbour and you can sit and watch the fishermen bring in their catch or see the children enjoying the pleasure boats. Whitby has a large sandy beach and perched on the hill overlooking the town is the famous Whitby Abbey. The cobbled streets lead you up to the abbey where the last stretch is a climb of 199 steps. There are excellent views from the top down towards Robin Hood’s Bay and Scarborough, then north towards Sandsend and Staithes. Beach 10 miles. Shop 40 yards, pub and restaurant ½ mile.
