About this property

An attractive end-terrace Edwardian property, in the charming village of Thornton-le-Dale, just two miles from Pickering market town. Ideally placed for exploring the stunning countryside of the North York Moors National Park and the many nearby attractions, it provides a very comfortable holiday home. The sitting room retains the original high ceilings, with a large bay window overlooking the quiet street and a cosy multi fuel burner to relax around on cooler evenings. Traditionally furnished in keeping with the age of the property, there is a modern kitchen with dining area and three family bedrooms, which are situated over the top two floors. A five minute walk brings you to the centre of this very pretty village, with a stream meandering down the main street. The children will love the traditional play area with its scooter park and Astroturf ball court. Enjoy a gentle stroll around, with its array of interesting shops, tempting tea rooms, pubs and restaurants. Walkers will delight in the many footpaths leading from the village, while a must for cyclists is nearby Dalby Forest, with numerous biking trails and adventure centre. Two miles away is the bustling market town of Pickering, with its castle, museums and the terminus of the renowned North York Moors Steam Railway, which winds its way through the heather-clad moors to Grosmont, a wonderful day out for both young and old. If you fancy a day on the coast, the seaside towns of Whitby, Scarborough and Filey are all within a forty-five minute drive. With many local attractions, including Duncombe Park, Castle Howard, Rievaulx Abbey and the historic city of York, this well-placed Thornton-le-Dale holiday home provides an excellent base, any time of the year.

Just two miles to the east of Pickering, the beautiful village of Thornton-le-Dale lies within The North York Moors National Park. This charming little village has a complicated shape and is comprised of a fascinating labyrinth of streams and paths which run between the pretty houses and around the village green, which still has its wooden stocks and a market cross. Hidden amongst the beautiful houses is a selection of shops, pubs and tearooms whilst the nearby market town of Pickering offers a further range of essential services as well as the North York Moors Steam Railway. The Forestry Commission woodland at Dalby is worth a visit and has several excellent nature trails to be enjoyed whilst slightly further away is the historic cathedral city of York with its huge range of shops, cinemas and museums.

There wasn’t a guest book or information pack.

We felt welcomed from the start with a fantastic welcome pack - the best I have ever seen, anywhere. We found a number of walks and despite being somewhat muddy coming back we felt reassured that the owners accepted this could happen and had provided a place for footwear and wet gear. We had a fabulous week. Thank you.

The house was spotlessly clean, comfortable and had everything we needed. There was an excellent welcome pack and the owner, Karen, was very friendly and had made sure everything was ready for us. We will definitely stop here again.
