About this property

Tucked away in a beautiful valley, amidst the scenic splendour of the North York Moors National Park, is this inviting abode, The Cottage. Boasting character features and warm tones, this delightful base makes for a great base to call home whilst exploring the wonders of North Yorkshire. After a day of fell walking, kick off your walking boots and retire to the lounge, perching on the sofa and tuning into the flatscreen TV. Dust off those cooking books and head to the kitchen, complete with a choice of appliances to assist with home-cooking, whilst the dining table is where all can gather for a delicious feast. Upstairs you can discover the bedrooms, including a double and twin, both complete with en-suite showers so you won’t have to worry about queues in the morning! If you’re looking to get away from it all and experience the tranquillity of North Yorkshire, look no further than The Cottage. This old market town serves as the official entrance to the stunning North York Moors National Park, the location of the Heartbeat countryside, with its full complement of facilities and traditional shops, cafes, pubs, and restaurants. Take a journey on the North Yorkshire Moors Steam Railway and visit some of the areas where The Philosopher's Stone was filmed if you're a Harry Potter fan! The Beck Isle Museum, which features a distinctive collection of black and white photography and exhibits of rural life, is also highly recommended. The North York Moors' rolling hills, valleys, rivers, and abundance of animals provide walkers with a wealth of options, while York City and the Heritage Coast are both within a half-hour drive. Overall, a great location for a peaceful getaway.

Parking good but little tight for larger cars. Lovely bed linen , bath towels bit small but all very clean

However, it was only a surface clean, there were spider webs and spiders that had to be got rid of. The work surfaces and table were not clean. The lighting switches were all mixed up and wrong way round, on was off and off was on. There was no landing light. There was no main light or pull cord in the bathroom of the double bedded room, only a shavers light, which made the lighting dim. The cutlery had to be washed before use and some of the plates too. The curtain pole at the landing window came down when curtains were closed. The toaster tripped the fuse on our first night and we had to make contact with yourselves and the named person on the folder in the cottage, which was difficult as no mobile signal and the phone box we were told to use was overgrown and not working. Once we found out where the fuse box was, we could ask the guests to flick it back for us. However, physical help was not available, so had there been no guests or they were out we would have been stuck with no electricity for a night. We had a fridge full of food and children, so this would not have been ideal. Information in the booklet was not correct about the phone box, there was no information about the rubbish, recycling, washing machine or what to do with the laundry at the end of our stay. We found out about the rubbish and recycling ourselves, though these bins were overflowing! The laundry, we stripped the beds and put it in a pile in each room as didn't know what else to do. However, we had a nice stay once settled and will have a cottage again, but this was not a nice experience for our first time.

The cottage was very clean and everything you could want was there, linen spotless and towels spotless, all in all should have booked a longer stay, well done the owners
