Pickering is a pretty town in the North Yorkshire Moors National Park, with some delightful independent shops and cafés, as well as a castle, a family fishing lake and a historical steam train. The steam train takes guests across the vast rolling moorland to the coastal town of Whitby, visiting quaint villages along the way, ideal for a day out to remember.
There are many attractions nearby to visit. For those who love the great outdoors there is Dalby Forest, with cycle and walking trails, as well as miles of hiking routes around the surrounding moorland, and you are only 30 minutes’ drive away from the coast. Along the coastline you have the towns of Whitby, Scarborough and Robin Hood’s Bay. For anyone interested in history you have the stately home of Castle Howard, Helmsley Castle and Walled Gardens, or even Eden Camp, which was a prisoner of war camp that has since been transformed into a museum. Children will be delighted with a day out at Flamingo Land theme park and zoo.
After a busy day of exploring this is the perfect base to return to for a cosy stay. The owner of this property also has Katie’s Cottage on the other side of the town, around a 10 minute walk away. Beach 20 miles. Shop, pub and restaurant ½ mile.

Had a great short break, the cottage is lovely and has all the home comforts you could need, in a great location close to all the amenities and local attractions. Comfy bed and cosy overall with a great size tv! I do feel it’s not as suitable for less able bodied people as a short walk from the car to the property although very pleasant by the stream and the stairs are a bit steep for some, my only criticisms are the internet was patchy at times, the sofa is hard to sit on without using the big cushions provided due to wear and blackout blinds in the bedroom would have been nice but having said that I would definitely stay there again for a short break in the future, thanks to Katie for making us feel so welcome
