About this property

This lovely stone cottage has been converted from a threshing barn and is situated overlooking the village green of Newton-upon-Rawcliffe, four miles from Pickering, on the edge of the North York Moors National Park. Ideal for a family or group of friends, this cottage offers upside down accommodation and is an ideal base for exploring this wonderful area. Inside this delightful cottage is a large, well-equipped kitchen with an exposed beam and dining area, and also on the first floor is a spacious and sunny sitting room with original beams and a woodburning stove, which is ideal to curl up in front of on winter evenings. On the ground floor are three bedrooms consisting of a double, twin and single, and completing the accommodation is a bathroom with underfloor heating. The quiet, but working village of Newton boasts a pretty cluster of stone farms and cottages around the village green and duck pond. Superb walking, riding and cycling can be enjoyed over moors, forest and woodland, plus the famous North York Moors steam railway runs close by en-route to the coast. Also in the area are castles, abbeys, stately homes, market towns and picturesque fishing villages, and historic York is within driving distance.

The delightful, unspoiled village of Newton upon Rawcliffe is a picture-postcard village with stone cottages and farms clustered around the village green and duck pond, situated on the edge of the North York Moors National Park. The area has varied countryside and offers fantastic walking opportunities. Nearby Pickering is only four miles away and this historic market town is home to the North Yorkshire Moors Railway, England's longest steam railway. Near the centre of Pickering is Beck Isle Museum; a centre of bygone rural crafts and the customs of the local area. The magnificent abbeys of Byland and Rievaulx are close by as is the historic walled city of York and the stately home of Castle Howard. With its many activities and attractions, this is a fabulous area for a family holiday.
