Rosedale Abbey itself offers a village shop, tearoom and two village inns and is an ideal base for exploring the stunning heather clad moors. Those keen golfers can test their swing at two beautiful courses found in Malton and Kirkbymoorside whilst the abbeys of Riveaulx and Byland are ideal for the budding historians. A charming cottage in a beautiful region of the North York Moors.

The charming village of Rosedale Abbey is positioned within Rosedale, a lovely valley of sweeping hillsides and breath-taking views, and is conveniently located for travelling both the Moors and the Coast. It is located in the centre of the North York Moors National Park. Beautiful moorland scenery surrounds Rosedale, and bridleways and footpaths extend in all directions. The Cistercian Priory, which gave the village its peculiar name in the 12th century, is now reduced to a single stone pillar, a stairway, and a sundial. The village green is surrounded by charming stone-built houses, shops, tearooms, two former coaching inns, and a glass studio that was recently featured in an episode of the BBC's "Countryfile" show. Although Rosedale Abbey features a 9-hole golf course, there are several other top-notch courses nearby for golf fans. A excellent selection of services, including eateries, boutiques, and marketplaces, can be found in the busy market towns of Kirkbymoorside, Pickering, and Helmsley. The abbeys at Rievaulx and Byland are also well worth a visit. Castle Howard and the ancient city of York are both easily accessible by road, while the seaside resorts of Whitby, Robin Hoods Bay, and Scarborough are all close by. Visitors may travel back in time by scheduling a ride on the North York Moors Steam Railway in nearby Pickering, and they can also discover the fascinating history of the region at the Ryedale Folk Museum, which hosts workshops all year long. For a genuinely memorable and exciting family fun day out, embrace the outdoors at Go Ape in Dalby Forest, or get lost in The Great Yorkshire Maze.

Lovely spacious cottage in a super area for exploring the North York Moors

You can tell the owners love the house and the area. They are very thoughtful (lots of info about what to do in the area). The house is very comfortable with everything you could need. Plenty of space for 4 adults and a child. There’s a lovely garden too.

The space is so beautifully decorated, comfortable and very well-equipped with some very impressive mod-cons. There were some lovely hotel-style touches as well, such as fluffy robes and slippers for our use, and toiletries provided. The freshly laid eggs awaiting us on arrival made for delicious scrambled eggs the next morning. The honesty box for wine is a great idea - we brought our own stash up with us, otherwise we would have made full use of it! Unfortunately, the weather was rather unsettled, so we weren't able to take full advantage of the lovely garden, but we certainly imagined ourselves enjoying it in drier, sunnier times! We can tell that the owners, Peter and Sally, are really invested in and care about this cottage and it's so well situated right in the heart of a gorgeous village. Between the two tea rooms (serving delicious food!) and the local store, we really did want for nothing. Cannot recommend this lovely place more, and we would love to return. Thank you again for a truly wonderful week.
