One of the best ways to explore this idyllic area is to head into the vibrant market town of Pickering, 1 mile away, and hop on a heritage train which takes you through fabulous scenery all the way to the seaside town of Whitby (21 miles). Head into Dalby Forest, 4.5 miles away, for treetop adventures, forest play areas and walking and cycling trails, or take the little ones to Flamingo Land, 5 miles away, with its zoo, theme-park rides and hands-on sessions with penguins, lemurs, meerkats or giraffes. The coast, at either Scarborough or Filey, is only 20.5 miles away, while the magnificent stately home and estate of Castle Howard is 14 miles away.

Step inside via the porch to find a handy boot room, which provides the perfect spot to leave coats and walking gear. The heart of the home is the inviting, open-plan lounge, kitchen and dining area, where timber flooring and log-clad walls create back-to-nature charm. Curl up on the corner sofa to watch the Smart TV, with the option of switching on the flame-effect electric fire for added cosiness on chillier evenings. The kitchen comes complete with everything you might need for holiday food prep, including a dishwasher and a wine cooler, while the solid-wood dining table is ideal for family feasts. Upstairs, the two restful bedrooms sit beneath sloping ceilings, each radiating warmth and well-being. The king-size room benefits from a TV and separate dressing space, while the twin offers a TV and PlayStation 4, which is bound to delight younger guests. Both beds are fitted with Hypnos mattresses, pocket-sprung for the ultimate in comfort. Completing the upper floor is a family bathroom, where robes and slippers are provided.
