In Pickering you can board a heritage train from a 1930s-themed station and puff through the moors to the seaside resort of Whitby (21 miles), where you’ll find a 13th-century castle, excellent shops, museums, award-winning restaurants and a sandy beach. The coastal towns of Filey and Scarborough are also within 20.5 miles. Closer to home, Dalby Forest (4.5 miles) has a treetop adventure trail, paintballing and play parks, while popular Flamingo Land (5 miles) has a zoo and theme-park rides.

Enjoy the country-style charm of this rustic lodge from the moment you arrive – expect wood-clad walls, timber flooring and quirky light fittings. Kick off muddy walking shoes in the boot room, then head through to the sociable open-plan living space. The spacious kitchen includes everything the chef of the holiday will need to cook delicious family meals, including a wine chiller for those evening tipples.
