Situated just off the marketplace in the heart of beautiful Richmond in North Yorkshire, this quirky cottage is perfect for couples or friends looking for somewhere close to the Yorkshire Dales National Park. Surprisingly spacious, this gorgeous property is light and airy with a fabulous mix of stylish interiors, yet a cosy place to curl up on the sofa with a glass of wine in the evening. Both en-suite bedrooms have a calming décor and comfortable beds to ensure a good night’s sleep. Friars Corner is a stone’s throw from the centre of this popular Georgian market town, steeped in history with lots of buildings and sites of interest to discover nearby, the famous Georgian Theatre is literally opposite the property. A short stroll takes you to the picturesque market square where you can sit and watch the world go by, or explore the cobbled streets and enjoy some great shopping with an eclectic range of shops, great restaurants and cafés. Take a picnic and enjoy a circular walk around the banks of the River Swale. The walk takes you past the station which has been restored to include a 3-screen cinema, a micro-brewery and bar, an ice-cream parlour, a delicatessen, an artisan bakery and finally, a café with a gallery of local art. Next to the station is Richmond’s indoor swimming pool. There is something here for everyone.
Richmond sits at the gateway to the beautiful Yorkshire Dales National Park, making this the perfect base for outdoor enthusiasts to explore the sights of Swaledale and the Yorkshire Dales. There are plenty of riverside and woodland walks nearby which continue into the wonderful countryside beyond. One of the most popular walks is Wainwright’s Coast to Coast, which passes through Richmond taking you through some breathtaking countryside with amazing views. To enjoy the wider area visit one of the many pretty Yorkshire towns or villages, such as Thirsk, Ripon, Harrogate, Leyburn, Hawes or Reeth, all of which are close by. There’s also horse racing at Catterick and York racecourses. The cathedral cities of Durham and York are within a short drive, and are certainly worth a day trip to explore, as is historic Barnard Castle and Bowes Museum. Shop, pub and restaurant 100 yards.

Beautifully restored period property has the charm of a historic exterior with a fully modernised interior, combining character with contemporary comfort. Ideally situated in the heart of Richmond, it provides immediate access to key attractions including Richmond Castle, the Abbey, and the scenic falls—perfect for families, with plenty of natural features for children to explore. The location serves as an excellent base for discovering the Yorkshire Dales, and we even ventured out to Seaham’s renowned sea glass beach (1 hr drive). Parking is available at the owner’s nearby property, just a four-minute walk away (for me) , which was both convenient and secure.Evenings are well catered for, with a wide selection of pubs and restaurants literally within a minute’s walk. We particularly recommend No. 29 Tapas, Rustique Bistro, Rafaelo Italian, and the charming Little Srummer Boy café—all offering excellent food and atmosphere.
