About this property

A warm welcome awaits you at Fulford House! Formally the doctors residence with the surgery forming the main part of this gracious Georgian house built in 1832. Having previously been the Queens Hotel, the surgery was located here from 1928 up to 1993 when the new surgery was built on the opposite side of the road. This high-quality Georgian building is located in heart of the old market town of Hawes in Wensleydale. Boasting modern fixtures and fittings, The Old Surgery provides an excellent accommodation for friends, families or couples alike. Discover the stunning open-plan living area, finished with an engineered wood floor and underfloor heating, as well as a beautiful high quality electric effect stove and Smart TV, so you indulge in your favourite shows while away. Adjoining the homely setup is the contemporary kitchen, equipped with a range of modern appliances and glossy white units which add a further touch of class to the interior. Retire to one of the luxuriously fitted bedrooms, consisting of a super king-size double (that can be split into a twin on request) and king-size double, both of which benefit from elegant en-suite shower rooms and flat screen TVs. Throughout, the accommodation has a bright and cheery feel, created by the attention to detail the current owners have put into this first-class holiday apartment. Right outside the property is Galye Beck waterfall which runs through Hawes and is spanned by an old and narrow bridge. There are also two more waterfalls in Hawes, the Aysgill Force and Gayle which can be visited. Take a short walk into Hawes and enjoy the wide range of amenities on offer, including shops, pubs and tearooms, and the fine Wensleydale Creamery, made famous by the Wallace and Gromit films. The surrounding Upper Wensleydale scenery is absolutely stunning, some of the finest on offer in the Yorkshire Dales and is renowned as one of the finest walking areas in the country. The natural surroundings in the area also perfect for activities such as, cycling, bird-watching, and fly-fishing. For the more energetic, face the famous Three Peaks challenge, as it is just a short drive away, while Gayle Mill, a fully-restored 19th-century sawmill, which featured on Channel 4’s How Britain Worked, is also well worth a visit. Boasting contemporary styling throughout with subtle hints of the previous building formation, this delightful apartment is a great base to stay, any time of year. Please note: this property can be booked alongside The Hayloft (property reference: 962286) to sleep a total of 6.

The delightful market town of Hawes is the highest settlement in Wensleydale and home to the delicious Wensleydale cheese. The town is also famous for rope making; a skill passed down through the generations and a fascination for many of the visitors that come to the town. A regular market is held on a Tuesday and Hawes has many excellent shops and eateries in its midst. The beautiful limestone countryside surrounding the town provides a huge variety of walks and other outdoor pursuits, and for sightseeing opportunities the area is unsurpassed with the spectacular Hardraw Force and theAysgarth falls just two of the natural wonders to be seen. comfortable beds and very clean. Some things were lacking in the kitchen. Few pans and the frying pan had the non stick surface peeling off! The cupboard doors need some tlc! An idiots guide to the heating would have been helpful! Single glazing means condensation on the windows constantly in the winter. The blue bin seemed to have disappeared and the box for recycling is inadequate! I would in no way class this as dog friendly! Dogs are only allowed in the lounge/kitchen and only on the floor! They are not even allowed in the garden! Only one door which leads onto the street so early morning and late night visits to the loo mean dressing for outdoors and walking the streets. Obviously not suitable for a female with a dog. So in summary a very disappointing property which certainly does not live up to its star rating.

In the description it refers to log burning stove - this is not a log burner but didn't detract from our stay.
