Bilsdale Cottage is a charming and cosy retreat set in beautiful, tranquil North Yorkshire countryside, ideal for walkers and those seeking peace and relaxation. Guests consistently praise its comfortable beds, well-equipped kitchen, and welcoming hosts. The location offers easy access to local attractions, market towns, and excellent pubs. While the cottage is generally clean and inviting, a few guests noted areas that could benefit from refurbishment or a deeper clean. Overall, it is highly recommended for a restful countryside escape.
Most guests found the cottage clean and well-presented, with several describing it as spotlessly clean. However, a few reviews mentioned areas needing a refresh or deeper clean, particularly in the bathroom and en suite, and one noted a damp smell. These minor issues slightly reduced the score.
The location is frequently described as outstanding, peaceful, and perfect for exploring North Yorkshire. Guests appreciated the beautiful scenery, proximity to walking routes, and easy access to Thirsk and local pubs. The only minor drawback mentioned was the lack of shops in the immediate vicinity.
Guests consistently praised the comfort of the beds and the cosy, warm atmosphere of the cottage. High ceilings and beams added character, and the heating was effective even in cold weather. A few guests mentioned the sofa could be larger, but this did not significantly impact overall comfort.
The cottage is generally well-equipped, with a good kitchen and all essentials for a self-catering stay. Some guests noted minor issues such as limited cutlery, lack of kitchen scissors, basic TV, and maintenance needs (e.g., loose kickboards, dated décor, and a leaking shower tray). These comments were balanced by positive feedback on amenities.
Several guests mentioned a warm welcome from the hosts and occasional small touches such as a box of shortbread and tea/coffee sachets. However, some noted the absence of a welcome pack or basic cooking essentials. Please note that gifts or welcome packs are not guaranteed.

The cottage is tired and needs refurbishment! The pictures are 8 years old so gave a false representation of the actual state and condition of the cottage. A simple coat of paint would improve it in the short term. Funny smell in the bathroom. Damp problem! Radiator was rusting, needs rubbing down and painting with proper radiator paint. Paint peaking of the walls near the shower, thus needs a plastic strip installed.
