Set over the first floor of an old mill, this inviting base is a great choice for couples looking to explore the North York Moors National Park. After a day of exploring, the open-plan living space will welcome your return; take a seat on the sofa and tune into the TV or simply reflect on the day's adventures. Head over to the kitchen and rustle up a favourite dish with assistance from the appliances, before settling at the dining table for a romantic meal. As the night falls, rinse away the day in the en-suite shower room before climbing into the king-size bed and drifting off. In the morning, follow the public footpath to Cod Beck reservoir for an idyllic stroll; afterwards you can use the on-site facilities at Cote Ghyll Caravan Park for some family fun. The local village of Osmotherley is home to a traditional pub, The Golden Lion, ideal for when you fancy a night off cooking, whilst there is also a convenience store should you need any cupboard essentials. Spend the day in the market town of Northallerton, which boasts the amazing Romanby Golf & Country Club, the fascinating Joe Cornish Gallery, and access to the Mount Grace Priory & Gardens, which are nearby and a delight. Also worth a visit it the traditional town of Thrisk, which is home to charming architecture, a selection of museums and the stunning Thirsk Hall Sculpture Garden. Make sure to spend as much time as you can outdoors at the North York Moors National Park, boasting moorland, forest, and heathland. Alternatively, the Yorkshire Dales National Park is close by and provides a wealth of breathtaking landscapes. Loom Apartment is a delightful abode for two, all year round. Note: This property can be booked with Refs. 1112239 and 1112236, together sleeping up to 9 guests.

On the western fringe of the North York Moors National Park, nestled between the Cleveland Hills to the east and the Yorkshire Dales to the west, is Osmotherley, a charming North Yorkshire conservation village with streets lined with grass and trees. With the Cleveland Way and Coast-to-Coast long distance footpaths passing nearby and serving as the beginning (or end!) of the renowned Lyke Wake Walk, Osmotherley is a particularly popular destination for cyclists and walkers. The old village cross in Osmotherley is surrounded by charming stone-built homes, three pubs, a charming coffee shop, a fully stocked general store, and a fish and chip shop. The market towns in the area, including Northallerton, Stokesley, Helmsley, Thirsk, and Ripon with its renowned racecourse, all have cobblestone market squares, charming tiny lanes brimming with cosy tearooms, exquisite delicatessens, and superb shopping and weekly fairs to offer. Combination lock on entry door made me feel safe even when I was the only guest in the building. Staff were so helpful too. Would recommend.

Note that this is one of four individual apartments within a YHA youth hostel and carvanning complex, which was a bit different from what we thought it would be based on the Sykes website, and it follows youth hostel conventions (ie. clean up after yourself). Nevertheless, we enjoyed our stay, and it served its purpose well for us. It gets marked down a little because it wasn't quite what we expected from the website , and because of some individually very minor but together slightly problematic infrastructure issues. Big positives: - Well-furnished, with a well-equipped kitchen and nice modern bathroom. - Very useful elements for walkers (boot/shoe rack by the radiator in the apartment; boot wash station outside). - Very friendly and supportive staff. - Excellent location, with great local walks, and good transport links to the lovely walks in the region. - Comfy bed and plenty of bedroom storage. Suggestions for improvement: - We strongly suggest installing a shelf in the shower, so that guests have somewhere proper to put soap, shampoo, etc. - The sofa looks good, but the vinyl leather isn't particularly comfy. Useful from a cleanliness perspective when you get in bedraggled from a walk, less cool for an evening in. Something a bit more snug and cosy would be good the next time the room is refreshed. - There's a very snazzy, modern smart TV, but only Freeview and BBC IPlayer set up. We suggest that it would be great to have at least one of the main streaming services set up in-house for the apartments and communal hostel spaces; perhaps pick one of either Netflix, DisneyPlus, or Amazon. - The duvet is very snug and comfy, and great for winter, but too heavy for summer temperatures. We suggest swapping it out for a lower-Tog duvet during summer. - We found the hob a bit unfathomable, and we started to wonder whether it was somehow broken. It would be helpful to have full instructions available in the kitchen for the appliance, for folks who aren't used to that format and model. - It would be useful to have hanging hooks in the bedroom (this is useful for robes, towels, etc). - There were some technical issues with the fire alarm overnight one night (the technical hub box being in the corridor right outside the apartment). The staff were very responsive to this, but it's worth doing a proper review of the circumstances.

Plenty of kitchen equipment so that we could cook as an alternative to eating out. Comfortable bed and lots of wardrobe/drawer space. Good-sized shower. Jan was very friendly and helpful, answering any questions we had and she kindly lent us a fan as the apartment was quite warm due to the very hot weather. I wish the settee was more comfortable but no other suggestions to make. The location makes it an ideal spot to walk into Osmotherley and to explore the wonderful surrounding countryside.
