About this property

On the edge of the North Yorkshire Moors, in the tranquil village of Swainby, you will find this delightful, mid-terraced hide-away, Chuckle Cottage.

As you walk to the front door, you will notice the bench at the front of the property, which is simply ideal for relaxing in the sunshine with a morning coffee or an afternoon tea, whilst the scent of lavender and herbs will complete this welcoming first impression.

Inside is an open plan living area, with a bespoke kitchen, breakfast bar and everything you need to rustle up some lovely meals and why not make use of the cool box and picnic basket in warmer weather too for your days out spent exploring.

In the sitting room, the classic sofa and armchair provide comfortable, snuggly seating in front of a cosy log burning stove and beautiful art work adorns the walls and pretty object d’art add to the welcoming and homely feel.

Upstairs, through handmade oak latch doors, there is a double bedroom with built in wardrobes and a comfortable bed, all made up with quality bed linen, awaiting your arrival. The single room has a comfortable bed with chest of drawers, suitable for a child or adult alike.

The bathroom has a modern, double walk-in shower, basin and W.C and a drying rack is provided for any damp clothing which will soon dry in front of the large heated towel rail, where towels are provided.

Guests can make use of a secure outbuilding, which has racks for bikes as well as boots which does come in handy as there are many routes for cycling and walking available in the area.

In the village of Swainby, there are two dog friendly pubs, both serving delicious food and are most welcoming to visitors. There is also a divine café, ‘The Rusty Bike’ where you can also hire bikes and it also stocks essentials such as bread and milk. On certain days there is even a postal service from the village hall as well as other events and activities in this progressive little village.

Scugdale Beck, with its many ducks, runs along the length of the High Street and through the village.

There is also a lovely pub and café in the nearby village of Ingleby Cross.

The Market towns of Stokesley and Northallerton are roughly equidistant to the East and West of the village, providing a larger selection of cafes, restaurants and shops. The well-known village of Osmotherly is up and over the moor about 4 miles and would take you past Cod Beck reservoir too.

The historical Mount Grace Priory, owned by the national Trust; the ruined Whorlton Castle are very nearby as is Renny Lake for course fishing.

Chuckle Cottage is perfectly situated for trekking; cycling and horse riding in the North Yorkshire Moors, as well as the Cleveland Walk; Lyke Wake Walk; Roseberry Topping and the Seaside towns of Whitby and Scarborough.

A little further afield are the towns of York; Harrogate; Richmond and Ripon. The sights of County Durham, Northumberland and Cleveland are also not too far to the North, not forgetting the Tees Barage for white water rafting and kayaking, as well as the Air Trail for adventurous children and adults too. Further west, the Yorkshire dales are also within easy reach.

We welcome dogs at Chuckle Cottage, with treats, throws and a drying towel provided, but please check with the owner if you would like to bring more than one.

This property is perfect for a small family, three adventure seeking friends or couples wanting a romantic break away. Chuckle Cottage, as its name suggests, is a relaxing hideaway, which would make anyone smile.

Hutton Rudby is a small village in the Hambleton District of Yorkshire. Available to you is a shop, a selection of pubs and a Post Office with Grade II listed house, Rudby Hall now used for private hire and weddings. Really nice place location really good, good value for money My one criticism is the seating which wasn’t really comfortable just needs a new settee

Comfortable, well maintained, and well equipped with the Yorkshire Moors on its doorstep. Could not have asked for more. Thank you.

Prior residents leaving condiments, pre-opened sauces etc. in cupboards should be discouraged for health and hygiene reasons and should be discarded, also takes up storage space. Similarly pre-used soaps and toiletries left in bathroom were not appreciated despite any gesture of goodwill. On the plus side a very well equipped cottage, perhaps with a little too many trinkets and nostalgia and in need of a little “streamlining”. Loved our Time at the cottage and will love to come back again.
