About this property

Tucked away in the pretty village of Brompton, North Yorkshire, is this historic 17th Century cottage, Blacksmiths Cottage. Enjoying a superb location within easy reach of the stunning North York Moors National Park and the renowned Cleveland Way, Blacksmiths Cottage is a fantastic choice for couples or a family of three. Be welcomed into the spacious open-plan living area, featuring beautiful exposed beams, where you will find a well-equipped kitchen for cooking up your favourite dishes, ready to savour at the dining table over a bottle of celebratory fizz. After dinner, retreat to the plush sofas where you can relax in front of a much-loved film on the Smart TV. Just off the kitchen is a handy utility space for your convenience. Head upstairs to the first floor, where you will find a contemporary shower room for freshening up, along with two beautifully presented bedrooms, a double and a single, with character beams in one of the bedrooms and the landing. Explore the village, where you can sample local ales at the neighbouring Crown Inn, treat your loved ones to a meal at The Village Inn, or stock up on essentials at the convenience store. For a wider selection of amenities head to Northallerton, where you can dine at the Bianco Ristorante, Tejanos Steak House & Grill, and Uno Momento, sample sweet treats at the popular Betty’s Café Tea Rooms, or test out your swing at the excellent Romanby Golf & Country Club. Roseberry Topping is a local popular landmark and walk to enjoy at any time of the year. Next stop is Thirsk, where you can tour the Thirsk Museum, The World Of James Herriot, visit the Thirsk Hall Sculpture Garden, spend an afternoon at Monk Park Farm, and refuel at the wonderful selection of pubs, restaurants and cafés. For scenic hikes and bike rides, venture into the North York Moors National Park, where you can visit the Mount Grace Priory, climb Ingleby Incline which boasts exceptional views at its top, and tour the National Trust – Rievaulx Terrace and Duncombe Park. Add a touch of character to your North Yorkshire stay at Blacksmiths Cottage.

Only two and a half kilometres separate the picturesque village of Brompton from the thriving market town of Northallerton. This historic district was once home to a linen mill but now features quaint cottages and a babbling brook along its main drag. You'll feel like you've stepped back in time as you explore the village's historic architecture, three village greens, and children's playground. Other amenities include a church, a general store, and two bars. As it is only 8 miles from Thirsk and close to Osmotherley, Brompton is a great base from which to explore both the Yorkshire Dales and the North York Moors. Northallerton, a nearby town, features numerous mom-and-pop stores, excellent dining options, and the world-famous Bettys Tea Room. The village's proximity to the Coast to Coast walk and the breathtaking scenery that surrounds it make it an ideal destination for hikers.

Property is clean, well maintained and quirky enough to be a bit out of the ordinary.

Would defiantly stay again and recommend.

  • Terrance

Modern standards but within a very recognisably period setting. Brompton is a lovely, quiet but easily accessible village and Blacksmith's Cottage is a very comfortable base from which to tour the sites of North Yorkshire. Our party of three very much enjoyed the experience.
